First, thanks to all who have helped identify my VPI HW19 Mk 3 and cinemag advice. The CMQEE-3440A's arrived today. Little critters! And a Benz Glider is on the way...yipee! I am looking forward to a nice re-introduction to vinyl..
I was thinking of hardwiring the cinemags on the VPI. On the back of the VPI, there is a Sumiko PIB-1 interface box. The box's aluminum face is just big enough to mount the two cinemags. So I was thinking of drilling the appropriate holes and mounting them on the face.
Would it be better to enclose the cinemags in a shielded box or are they OK exposed? Also, would using non-ferric screws be a good idea?
Follow Ups:
Thanks John for shedding some reality.Relative newbie here. Totally forgot about that. I have an MFA Magus with plenty of space inside. So they might go in there. Got to get some decent cable now.
Yes Scott, me too. Still waiting for the benz. I got the low..
Step-up transformers reflect capacitance back to the cartridge in an amount equal to the capacitance across their secondary multiplied by the square of their turns-ratio. Consequently, it is best to maintain the shortest length of interconnect from the transformer's secondary to your phono stage. In other words, it would be much better to mount your Cinemag in your phono stage than on your turntable.Mounting a step-up transformer on a turntable is the worst place to mount it!
Hi Kent. I am doing up my cinemags today! I'm using an alum enclosure, but your idea had merits that offset its lack of verstility. I think you are fine to mount them externally, and my guess would be that ferrous screws are OK....most trannys are held together by those anyway, and we are talking about very small field here, anyway.Which Glider did you get.... The Low?
Scott T.
looking forward to our eventual get-together.
