Even the cleanest record has some noise when you put the needle to the record. I know there are some people who mute it. That can be a nice trick if auditioning for digital people who expect vinyl to be supernoisy. One nice thing about that lead-in noise, though, is you get a hint of volume level before the music starts.
I remember when CDs first came out, the novelty of the music coming out of nothing was a major selling point. So then all these idiots started buying bunches of CDs and selling off their vinyl collection.
Follow Ups:
And then got reall pissy when they discovered that older recordings STILL had tape hiss.I can't count the number of people who complained about the noise their brandy new CD player made after the experts told them how "quiet" digital would be. They weren't happy when we told them that CDs didn't get rid of the tape hiss.
1991 - some poor sap who had an enormous hardon for digital sold his Rega Planar 3 to me for $300 (including K9 cartridge & RB300). It replaced the cheap-ass no-name turntable I had been using and my life took a turn for the better.I wonder if that poor sod is kicking himself to this day.
cough cough, mutter, yeah, they were fools.Suckers! ack! me too.
Well, I'm finding that the more I listen to both the more I'm realizing I could live very happily with either. (although at the moment my analog has quite an edge) Both CD and vinyl have ups and downs but both bring great music.
Cassettes are a right out!!! And neither shall thou count to 4. Lobbest thou holy hand grenade at all tapes (exception the master tapes) and thy number shall be 3. (unless I missed something with reel to reel)This is an asylum..I never claimed sanity. Get used to me. I like it here and I especially like Pat O' Malley. It's great to meet new friends here.

The AM radio in my alarm clock really makes music as well.....You just have to let your mind accept the snow and slime.Man, my AM radio makes tons more noise than vinyl and the background is almost all noise. (I know you hate quiet--cd's, you'd love this)
Man I'm starting to like you...Your alright after all. (I took you wrong in your first few posts, sorry.)
Audiophiles are all in the same family...(It's a shame such a dysfunctional one though )
Isn't it great fun to pick at people posts? I myself hate it, but what the heck. Let's play.
