As long as we are bragging about our recent hauls, included in my recent find was Bartok String Quartets 1-6 by the Végh Quartett on Telefunkin SKH 25083-T/1-3.3 LPs NM for $15.

PICTUES.....I want pictures...............please. I just picked up a Red Angel with the Vegh performing Bartok's 1&2......but I know they originally did these 1954 recordings on some other label........and I didn't think it was EMI.
Hope this helps.
WOW........great pic....but it's sort of a mixed bag. The 1/2 and 5/6 are the 1954 mono recordings.........the ones I'm tracking down. The middle issue in your pic is part of the later stereo effort.....although you might have a mono version of the stereo performance.I already picked up the mono 1/2 for $5 on a "made in England" Red Angel pressing. The 33CXs would be great...........especially if I don't have to break the bank. I sold 600 CDs including some VERY expensive Sviatoslav Richter issues......made $5500......that was in the winter of 99/2000...........spent it all on 33CXs, ALPs, LXTs, LM, MLs. The records were FAR cheaper than they are today. I've seen a 33CX of 5/6 for 60pds !!!!
Mixed Bag is right, sums up my record collecting.
As Ivan 303 says, his Telefunken Stereo Box set(I also own this set)is from the Valois recordings, but the middle LP in my pic is Astree!but I am sure from the same set.
French Labels are my rave at the moment, for Chamber Music they are unbeatable.
Unfortunately at present I do not own 3/4 of the Vegh mono set,in the mean time the great early Juillard Quartet are filling the void, their 4th from early 50s is I think the best I have heard.
No info on your Schwarzkopf aberration...Angels not to hand...RE: Bartok/Vegh.
The 1954 recordings are issued on UK Columbia in 1956 - 33CX1245/1267/1285.
The matrix info should indicate whether they're originally French EMI "Pathe-Marconi" - or Electrola origin as opposed to UK Columbia recorded - 'XAX' prefix in that case.
I don't think they were licensed - & don't have them anyway to check!
The Blue Telefunken labels are dated 1972 and they are Stereo.Clearly not a 1954 mono cycle.
The Vegh/Telefunken set was issued originally on the French label 'Valois'...MB 967-9.
also has "Grand Prix du Disque" and "Deutscher Schall Platten Preis" stickers on the box.Wonder when it was recorded?
Like most quartets........they felt compelled to re-record everything in stereo.....usually not as well unfortunately. Although I have one friend that STILL believes that the Budapest Quartet's Stereo Beethovens are better that their mono cycle. I disagree, but I just don't bring up the subject.
