Hold on a minute ......The platter has got "incredible speed stability" ?
Harry W's Upgrades "to-do" list : * motor upgraded to suit Columbia Six-eyes
* special flywheel for use with single ended triodes
* new record clamp suitable only for pre-yoko beatles
Follow Ups:
Do you really think the platter doesn't affect speed stability? I'm surprised by that.Dynamic balancing, mass, peripheral weighting, improving tolerances for "perfect" roundness and flatness of the dge against the belt are all platter design and execution parameters that affect speed stability.
Yeah, I suppose you are right. If you go about it this way :
The parameters you mention are certainly going to affect turntable performance ... and affect it negatively if improperly designed.
So by extension yeah, I suppose an advance in any / all of those -- even if only incremental -- would positively affect performance.
You're right.

although, PS .... I don't know, there's just some kind of "can you tell me why I bought the first one then ..?" .. kinda thing going on with this....
...or would it be better phrased by saying "okay, great-- does that make my current table merely obsolete, or just a design mistake in the process of correcting itself.. with a cash infusion ?"It's a funny situation to have a table come out very recently and then have one of the primary parts "now upgradeable".
Although, I'll admit, part of why I bought an Aries table was the 'upgradeability' policy of Vpi.
Although at that time, the policy concerned non-primary elements, like flywheels and speedboxes......
I can totally relate to your feelings. I've had several pieces of gear that became obsolete after I owned them for awhile, including a C-J PV10A, Rega Mira, and JMW 10. If nothing else, it lowers the resale value of the older piece. Very annoying.I try to avoid hardware upgrades by telling myself I will spend the money on software instead, but the added software just means I might possibly enjoy a hardware upgrade more. Anyways, I'm sorry if I accidentally removed a barrier for spending some money on an upgrade!
I love the brand's names for the things...Sooper dooper enhanced signature master-baiter.
No wonder he had to discontinue the HW-19 series of decks. They ran out of upgrade path + actual wood is expensive.
what does the platter go for these days... > $1k, right? is it as high as $1.5k, even?upgrades to existing owners are a very good business.
if you're not careful, JD, HW might go on a rant in this very thread.
for the most ridiculous, expensive upgrade possible.
