Elektra issues box set. How in the world did someone who brought us the Doors, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, etc. also bring us .... Bread????
rlindsa - new vinyl freakThere are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. (Albert Schweitzer)
Follow Ups:
Some cool stuff on there.
Bread included the late James Griffin who was a very talented singer/song writter. Unfortunately, he was always over shadowed by David Gates who had all Bread's top 40 hits. Try giving a listen to Bread (self titled),On the waters and Mana. Their early work was their best.
Bread also recorded some damned decent songs.
Check out the album Manna some time...

If one is into beguiling pop these records will melt your heart. I owned "On the Water" as teen and enjoyed it but then relegated them to the doofus stack. My mistake. A few years ago I searched out all the old Bread LPs and was dumbstruck at how great the first few were. The high caliber of songwriting craft, peformance/singing, and production makes these records standouts in the so-called light rock genre. They also did all their own production right from the debut. These guys were not hacks.
And the Doors certainly had their schlocky moments . . .
