High Torque....low vibrations and excellent sound. One inmate referred to this motor as "the flywheel motor." I am not sure of the point of reference, but this thing sure keeps excellent time and has great PRAT.The third phase is accomplished with a faking capacitor. The design is simple and elegant.
I think a heavy plinth and attention to the bearing polish and ball quality will go a long way to getting superb sound.
I just cannot see myself going back to a suspended table any time soon. These papst driven turntables are simply sublime. Close your eyes and the performers are right there for you to enjoy. PRAT lives in these motors.

Yep, I got three of them in my Voyd TT. Most dynamic TT I have heard.
identifying name for these motors. I would like to try one on my Sota bastard table in place of the Teres that I now use. They must be available on EBay.
As such they do not say Pabst on them anywhere. They are a hysteresis motor and have this square frame mount to support the motor. It is a wonderful design and the motors are really well built. Here is a picture of the beast. I will try to take some better pics this weekend.
I have looked many many many times for spares... and have yet to see any on Ebay...
