Well... there are many nice TT options and that's great for everybody... in the 1200 MKII corner there are indeed some talking points as follow:1) It has an inexpensive fractional upgrade path. (www.kabusa.com)
2) It can be made to accommodate 78RPM in addition to 33/45 for about $150 at KAB
3) It is serviced by one of the very best, most interested purveyors of any product I have ever experienced...Kevin at KAB
4) You can purchase easily exchanged headshells including an "audiophile" one by Sumiko that allows azimuth adjustment. (Taking one's time, 3-5 minutes! Nice for swapping in both 78 specific and mono specific carts)
5) It's built like a tank and replacement parts are available inexpensively
6)It sounds great but YMMV as may your tastes.
7) VTA can be adjusted on the fly.
8) Speed changes are instant.
9) You have a constantly running strobe for speed verification(although this can be disabled for "better" sound).
There's more I'm probably not remembering now but you get the idea.
I happen to have mine sitting next to a VPI Scout w/ a Sumiko Blackbird (that I love too!) and it is my workhorse for incoming vinyl needle drops, alternate formats as well as outright listening especially to rock, remix, electronica, funk, R&B and seminal 60's and 70's pressings. Just a different flavor. The carts I use with it are not SOTArt so an equal comparison w/ the Scout is not relevant. I will tell you that the 1200 has NOTHING to apologize about.

they are pic discs for Russ Myers sexspoitation films from the 60's. I paid about $25 each for 'em and they were well worth it. The other side is just as nice depending on taste of course! You can probably still get these. I only play them for a kick, but they offer pretty cool music and funny dialogue. I like kitch so it works for me!
Have fun
