One thing you'll notice about my posts on these forums is a VERY open mind. I love vinyl, but really disagree with people that spit on digital sound. Is digital really as bad as everyone makes it out to be on these boards?Do a little A/B testing on yourself and have your wife swap back and forth from a CD/Vinyl changing the source knob. (You'll need dead quiet albums and matching CD's for this test)
My guess is that moderate to higher cost systems will notice much less of a difference than people think.
At least, this has been my own personal experience.
Do I love vinyl? Yep, In fact I scored 20 albums today. (I am very resourceful and have found vinyl extremely easy to find)
Will I always play vinyl? Absolutely. Collecting vinyl is a great bit of fun, cheap, and a great way to save money on music.
Will I pretend Vinyl is the only thing to listen to? Nope. CD's really sound great. They both have ups and downs.
Follow Ups:
Where do you buy vinyl in No. VA?
I can't tell you were I get most of my vinyl. (I scored 20 albums today for $20)But I can tell you about Orpheous and Joes Record Paradise.
Joes record paradise is incredible ! I got there when I needs special albums. Orheous is OK, but the owner is a real dick.
I am very good at networking with people in Nova. People bring me boxes of vinyl to work all the time. Its also good to know about large group yard sales. I have so much great vinyl. Who cares if it doesnt sound quite as good as CD.....(joke--lighten up all)
Thanks for the tip on Orpheus Records. Been to Joe's in E. Gude in Rockville. It's good to go to several places, the hunt is merrier.
Just be careful with the old hippy guy at orpheous. His prices change depending on the money he thinks you have. Don't go there wearing nice clothes and never mention audiophile. The guy is one of the biggest pricks in the area. If it wasn't for my addiction to vinyl, I'd leave him alone altogether. His prices are also higher than many you'll find on the internet. (Although I hate shipped albums)
I really liked listening to an HDCD of Joni Mitchell. My only irritating position is that if you want to go on and on and on about how much you like digital take your shit somewhere else. That's all. But I have no right to tell anybody to do anything at all.
Even though I don't have any right to do something doesn't mean I won't go ahead and do it.Don't forget to leave some for the morning or you will have to sit in your car outside the store'till they open.

your post is most troubling.

the hair on the back of my neck ...
What what what ?Mom did we tell you the babysitter passed out ?
sometimes more, sometimes less.
It feels like a tenuous grasp, I have.
problem here is that TnT is gonna have a rabbit that we fcked up his thread.that, and he's buying cd burner instead of a koetsu on Johnnie E's recco ....
before google image I only posted smaller posts
Go ask alice
Well, JE knows what he's talking about don't he? I mean, he did before he passed out.
OOoh but those things get the less-mature acquisition juices going, don't they....But ---cleverly, you got a PLP in there, an Analog Pre with a Phonostage ...
Okay, so the dac's on the lower shelf, then one up is the Plp, then .. what's the next chunk of Swiss audio heroin ?
(I was pretty sure their new cd transport had a front-loading drawer ...)

here they go again ...(the box on top of the CDT is the Nagra V two-channel hard-drive recorder ($8800).) Nagra's new CDT transport (price tbd) and DAC ($12,000),
text stolen from Steropile and shuffled.

Now just let someone complain about posting this stuff here in vinyl!

Way cool.but why do I continue to think these are only found in listening rooms that feature Diana Krall and Jazz At The Pawnshop... ?

You support is appreciated.
Of course you've said it better and with fewer words. A gift from the Irish linage I would presume.
I think the post is relevant to todays discussions which pop up quite frequently.Don't like them then don't read them but I find the subject to be quite educational. Personally I'd rather listen to vinyl any day of the week and only listen to cd's in the car.
OLLY
Thanks Olly, this post went in a direction I didn't intend. Its a tough crowd here. I should have known better then to say such sacreligous things about vinyl here on this forum.I'll keep trying to beat my CD sound. I've got some work cut out for me though.
On a side note, I found some pretty good deals on Shelter, (501 and 901) and a Benz L2. I may even lose my mind and run to Vu for the Koetsu this weekend. I'll keep you posted.
