since you mentioned jackie & tina...
Follow Ups:
What a wealth of music there is in the Blue Note series. Wish I had it all! I'm still working my way through the affordable CD reissues and some vinyl as I find it.
My copy is "electronically re-channelled for stereo". Another reason to seek out record company execs and torture them to death!

If I had more money I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LPs!

How could anyone who plays monos as often as I do buy a pre-amp without a mono switch?Sometimes I surprise myself with stupidity...I know...I know...I don't surprise anyone else.
I thought I'd say it before anyone else did!

I have mono LPs that say that on the jacket - give it a listen

right now - hmm, actually that's the title of another great Jackie Mac LP - and play my new Freddy Redd LP after that.
A great one, and you really have to have one of the CD reissues of this to get the full picture IMHO. The unissued tracks like "Street Singer" (from Blue Mitchell's pen and as good a presentation of his sound and vibe as any I know) and "Melonae's Dance" have been songs- to start- the day- with around my house for more than 20 years...
Regards,
Sorry, I should have changed the header to indicate the newish topic in my post below. Perhaps this might be of interest to some of you.I'm listening to the CD reissue right now, and the liner notes indicate that the first three tracks were the only usable ones from the 1959 Jackie's Bag session, and three from the 1960 Street Singer session were added on the original vinyl.
The RVG reissue has the three Jackie's bag session tracks plus all six of Street Singer giving in total
1959 Jackie session (with Donald Byrd, Sonny Clark, Paul Chambers, Philly Joe Jones):
Quadrangle
Blues Inn
Fidelfollowed by the complete 1960 "Street Singer" titles (with Blue Mitchell, Tina Brooks, Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and Art Taylor):
Appointment in Ghana
A Ballad for Doll
Isle of Java
Street Singer
Melonae's Dance
MedinaIt looks like "Street Singer" only ever appeared as a Japanese LP.
Sound on the CD is nice and crisp on my study system, great sessions.
Cheers, Paul

wow...maybe i should look for a cd for those bonus tracks. wish i could just buy the bonus tracks only...even digitally. would be nice to have a lossless download service for jazz. :)
I probably overstate the case a bit- I just really love those extra tracks (esp. Street Singer) but the "original" six tracks are equally burning. Anyhow if you pony up for the CD I don't think you will regret it, though I did regret buying, in addition to the 3 others I have, the "RVG" edition...
I agree with you 100%. This KING issue has been in regular rotation for YEARS in my house!
Thanks!
I remember seeing that around awhile back. I had forgotten about that issue.
I guess that session, and half of Jackie's Bag, was originally a Tina Brooks date. It would also be on the Mosaic complete Tina Brooks on BN vinyl box, which is no doubt hard to find and expensive at this point. The King cover you posted is surely hipper than the Mosaic artwork...
Regards,
Very funny! 'Twas always my take on Mosaic, too--the lack of cover art left me wanting. Would have made the prices much higher, of course. I'm glad I bought the Tina Brooks Mosaic box, for the nice pressings and the liner notes. But I subsequently bought some Japanese pressings, and they're also wonderful. Because of the music.
