I just purchased a rek-o-kut b12h off ebay. It does not have a tonearm or plinth, but the turntable is precut for a tonearm. I know that the rek-o-kut arms will fit properly. Are there any other tonearms that will work properly within that precut mount?
Follow Ups:
...is no. However, you can slot the existing hole slightly to allow for a proper fit of a great many tonearms. Anything with a spindle to pivot distance of 215-230mm is a candidate for transplant. Those arms on the shorter side of that range, like the MAS 282, are easier because the slot doesn't need to be so much.
It is best that when you build your
plinth to mount the B12H turned
so that the speed control knob is in the upper left hand corner, this
will allow you to mount any arm on the plinth that you build.
This also has the advantage of putting the motor further away from
the arm/stylus.
It is a superb table when done right.
Enjoy!!
OrthoDo you have any guidance for the details of making / mounting an armboard in the plinth for that configuration? I am doing the same project ... B-12H rotated 90 deg CW with a rectangular plinth. I haven't seen much detail on this aspect. Height is obviously set-up dependent but how thick or thin should an armboard be? And how closely mated to the plinth (just at screw mounting points or "organically" / 3D fit)?
Thanks,
