On a DG pressing if there was one...Haven't heard it on vinyl but it's a wonderful performance by him.
Follow Ups:
Images I/II coupled with Children's Corner on DG.
Paul Jacobs on Nonesuch, perhaps.
The late Paul Jacobs/Nonsuch recordings are beautiful......some of the best piano on vinyl IMHO!!
Tom B.
I third the Jacobs. All the Debussy on Nonesuch by Jacobs.
Thank you all for the help and information.I have a recording (on VOX) of Images I from 1962 (heavy vinyl), as performed by Frankl.
Are the VOX recordings/pressings generally known for being good/bad/ugly?
The cheaper version after the record initially comes out. Red Seal as opposed to Living Stereo etc
Vox employed a great recording team--Aubort, etc., and their pressings reveal most of the dynamics and soundstage, much better than subsequent RCA pressings used above in comparison. The problem with Vox is that the pressings can have defects that cause momentary noise but one can ultimately find ones without defects. Earlier Vox' are thicker and better in quality control dept. Two I would recommend are the Faure Chamber music and the Ravel Complete Orchestral music.
