I don't know what you mean by "broad sword" but if you can find just one CD that meets your complete expectations for a musical performance, then the digital format cannot possibly be the reason that other CDs don't sound the way you like. That's just plain simple logic.

then thats the way i would buy it. the occassional LP that sounds worse than its cd counterpart can be explained away by poor mastering or poorly stored master tape.
I never said anything about an occasional LP that sounds worse than its CD counterpart.What I said is that if you can find just one CD that sounds as good or better than your very best sounding vinyl, that vindicates the digital process from being the culprit for non-musical sound quality.
