Hey all,Off a recommendation here, I bought the AT OC9II back in December 2004 and have lived with it happily ever after. I play A LOT of vinyl and have never had any trouble with it, mounted on my Thorens 126 MK-III, with the carbon arm. (This is the fully automatic table.)
I really loved the sound on my rig -- Meadowlark Hotrod Shearwaters driven by an old Yamaha 2020.Anyway, the diamond finally fell off last night. I had so many hours on the needle, that I wasn't really upset when it popped off.
That said, I obviously need a new cart. Is there any reason I should not just buy the same cart again -- now $289 from music direct?
I haven't followed the local banter about carts for some time, so please excuse if the post is old hat.
best to all

Wow,I did not know about the AT exchange -- will do that.
Call them first. On occasion, they're out of stock and you may have to wait a few weeks. Otherwise, I agree with others...have not had to wait more than a few days for my replacement.
for a new oc9II w/boron cantilever. they did mine, i jus havent mounted it yet.

Audio Technica US has great customer support.A very nice part of dealing with a good company and not audiophile pirates like some other outfits that market cartridges based on AT's design.

I bought 3 or 4 of those in a row when I 1st discovered them back around 1990. I eventually went to a wood bodied Grado. Totally different but much warmer and more rewarding.
AT will do it.
BTW,I have been using that cart for a while now and I love it.
enjoy,

I liked the Denon a lot. Overall it seemed to be a more "musical" cartridge.Since, I have had the Denon re-tipped by Sound-Smith (Ruby Cantilever, line contact stylus) and find the upgraded Denon to be one of the best cartridges I have ever owned.
A new Denon through German seller William Thakker on ebay will run $150 shipped, then the Sound Smith re-tip/upgrade is $250.
The result is a killer cartridge for $400.
Of course its JMHO, IME, and YMMV...

Al, what is the life expectancy of the line contact retipped DL-103 compared to the plain ol' spherical 103?
It has to be longer than the original conical (I would think).Under magnification the tiny stylus bonded to the ruby cantilever looks like it is really high quality. The whole job seems to be of the finest quality really.
