Been vinyl hunting this morning. Fleamarket/garage sale in a tiny village nearby. I don't know about the situation in the US but over here in Holland it's getting rare to see "average" folks cleaning up their attics and garages and selling off their old elpees for 1 euro a piece or even less. Either the repertoire/condition is complete junk or you have to pay real money.
This morning i was lucky though, good pop/rock stuff for 0.50 euro a piece in decent condition: Stones, JJ Cale, AC/DC, Stranglers and so on. Prime finds: two Beatles records, a German pressing of Hey Jude and this record on VJ. I found out this is the 70s counterfeit, NOT the 60s original. Damn! The original is titled "Songs, pictures and stories". Ah well, who am i to complain.

Follow Ups:
in the "Songs, Pictures, and Stories" legitimate LP. VJ just repackaged the same material to resell some more copies. The legit SPS has about 2/3 of the front cover as a gatefold (the black section). THAT is the surest way to know a legit issue from a pirate issue.

... at least, genuine Vee-Jay :-)
It was given to me, ca. 1969, by its original owner, who had gotten it new (i.e., a long, long time ago). This thread seemed like a good excuse to pull it out and snap a few quick photos. Hardly mint condition, but I always thought it was pretty cool.I do know there's scads of information on various versions (legitimate and otherwise) of this out there on the entireweb... never had the nerve to look closely and compare. Sorry the photos are not great.
I'm no expert on this, but I can't see George's shadow on your cover. I understand that the lack of a shadow is an indication of a fake. There is a web site with examples of all the fakes and originals. If you are curious, search AA for a thread that refers to it. It was several years ago that I saw it, so I don't know if it is still out there.Enjoy!
the glare on the photo sort of eclipses it :-)
I had seen that discoloration before and thought it sort of looked like a grease mark. It is roughly (although distortedly) George-shaped, though.I'll see if I can get a better photo.
I know there is a plethora of such info out on the intraweb, but the information is so granular (so to speak) it's confusing for a non-specialist like me.
There's probably a certain collectability to beatles 'related' material. However, I was ripped off in the 70's (or late 60's) when Polydor released a double 'Beatles' album called the David Wigg interviews. In my gullibility I bought it, as it described itself as Interviews and music from the Beatles. Well, the interviews were there, in fact, that's nearly all it was, and the music was some synthesized junk versions of a few Beatles songs.
All the more reason to hate the large music companies!
