I received this in an e-mail from Garth "...But in any case congratulations on your use of Audio Asylum to negotiate a
new product to replace one you destroyed." I must be the most successful scammer I know.I object to being accused of something I would never do and I might say have a hard time figuring out how to do.I aked for advice as a last resort on an Incognito loom here. I was about to bin it.Garth says he will replace it.Both my dealer and Garth spend a long time with this.I get the replacement thinking it was in good faith. Then comes a nasty e-mail from Garth about how I scammed a replacement from him. What should I do?
Follow Ups:
all this support for Garth could cause unexpected side effects, imagine a new *nice* Garth... Wyyeh, I wanna hurl!
If you wrecked it, setting it up or whatever, and then got another one as a replacement- consider yourself lucky and shut up! Not everyone at the audiophile selling end of the field would be as forgiving as to give you another if you were at fault here...If it is a product with flaws from the get go, causing issues with setup etc- buy better next and shut up.
.
But then again I'm wired that way. I don't accept gifts that come with strings attached.
...on this board carried on like something of a prick from time to time.Garth, my adorable little lamb chop, if you can't take it, don't dish it out.
Over the time I have posted on AA I have seen (and had) pleasant replies from Garth to downright insulting ones. None of the nasty ones seemed to have been warranted; I have seen people abused simply for asking a question. Your experience is far from unique.I can only think it is a European thing, and I think you should simply ignore his comments. He did do the right thing by sending you a gratis replacement, so you are not out of pocket. If verbal abuse does trouble you, take you business elsewhere. I most certainly won't deal with anybody that shows me disrespect.
You should reply saying: "Thank you very much for the free Incognito loom, RRP $300, to replace my own, which I damaged".Nothing more to be said.

Oh, I just ordered one of these kits. Guess I'll be extra careful (which usually translates into not getting impatient.)

Can you play music on something stolen?
Do you feel you'd stolen it, or is it only he said you'd stolen it? If you can honestly conclude the latter, you shouldn't feel guilty.

If your conscience is bothering you best send it back (and apologize). If you doubt this advise I suggest you read Crime and Punishment... better to avoid a world of trouble and end up back here spilling you guts out in an most embarrasing manner!LOL
But here you go again splashing it on AA.The original impression you gave here was that the product was somehow defective. It was not in the end defective at all rather but rather user destroyed.
I nevertheless replaced it with a new one free of charge.
What should I do?
(actually I would have never mentioned it again had you not felt the need to bring it up here again)
Garth you reply very quickly when someone questions your own integrity.I did this here because it is justified. Now I care enough about the music I listen to,to not want to add to it anything that has been scammed, stolen or aquired without any integrity at all.You have brought a poison to this exchange,I hope you can grasp.Do you want it back?
Why do you have to consult a bunch of people you don't even really know?
These are not a bunch of people I don't know.I value extremely highly and owe very much to the great people that have contributed to this Asylum. You have been an icon for me personally Garth but I feel that I had to say what I did in this open forum. The consensus looks as though it's against another slingbat so sorry to all that got bothered by it and I'll mull for a while I guess.
Regardless of the words he sent you or the attitude you present about how you feel about the exchange, you have a new setup.....And you decide to stab him anyway.....
I think you need to diminish at this point and thank Garth for coming through regardless of his attitude about your problems.
Don't look a gift horse in the mouth and don't bite the hand that feeds you.
...when Tubes and I completely agree. It is a case where the maker took care of the customer, but the customer didn't like any criticism, or didn't accept any responsibility on his part. Garth Phillippe is smart enough to know whether the cable was the same as when he sent it out. That said, I am not accusing the user for the problem. Rather, I am saying that it is not as it was when initially shipped from the maker. My opinion is that the cable be accepted gracefully, and appreciated for the superior quality that it is. We are beyond any initial functional problems at this point, so now the original poster has possession of a superior product. He should be happy that the product was backed up by a maker who handled any shortcomings, regardless of fault. That alone is an uncommon occurrence these days.
Garth sometimes is too frank, but he is always honest with his opinion. In my opinion, he absolutely did the "right" thing for his customer under questionable circumstances. His product is valuable and delicate and needs care in installation. He should not be held accountable for a poor install. This whole exchange should have been private between buyer and seller, and not aired on the asylum.
Looks to be the start of some virtual unpleasantness. So, I gizz best to let the spillover run a direction other than mine .....However .... and this IS directed at Garth. Are you, or are you not in the audio biz? Something that I have wondered for some time. And of course if so (?), one would think a change in Audio Asylum registration would/might be indicated.
We now return you to your normally scheduled internet slogg/slingfest.
