Hey all,
I am really loving my Technics 1210 mk2 and am really excited about enhancing it even further. There are a lot of threads that already discuss this, too many actually. I was hoping to consolidate some of the advice thats out there. In General:
Which enhancements are the most valuable? Are there any enhancements that really stand out in anyone's mind? How big of a problem do you think the platter is? What success has anyone had dampning the platter?Me Specific:
I've already added the KAB arm dampner. (great value by the way)
I would like to change the cabling, power supply and add the strobe disabler. Those are the enhancements that seem most intuitive to me, but I never prided myself on intuition. What order would you recommend these upgrades? I don't have the income to do it all at once. Is there anything that I missed that is more important? Does anyone have a good recommendation for cabling. I did a little looking around on Needle Doctor and couldn't really find much for less than $500. Thats a little rich for me right now. Any good resources for DIY cabling?

Thanks all
In addition to the tweaks on your list, try replacing the stock feet with Sorbothane feet. That made a big difference for me - much cleaner sounding at the same and louder volumes.I've also found the Sumiko HS-12 headshell - the one with azimuth adjustment capability - to be a nice upgrade too. I use a thin mirror (about the same thickness of an LP, placed directly on the mat) to set the azimuth, so that when looking from the front, the cantilever appears to rise straight up from the mirror surface. Better tracking and lower groove noise have been the result.
The results from these two tweaks have not been all that subtle either. I made some before and after comparison recordings on my PC and have been quite satisfied. I've found a record clamp to be very helpful as well.
It does require some disassembly to liberate the arm from the plinth, but form there its straight forward. You can conclude by upgrading the phono leads to something like Petra cable in the length that suits your needs. I think this would be the single most noticeable improvement.
ICs, power supply and strobe disabler. Give Kevin a call at KAB.

Get the power supply and beef up the DC cable--Kevin's is way too thin (24ga). I use 18 ga solid core.Get some Marigo dots and place them on the cartridge and the tonearm gimbals.
I use the Michel record clamp...
Changing the tonearm wires is a bitch and it cost me an arm (literally).
