I went to my favorite used vinyl place and as luck would have it, they were having their 1/2 off sale on most things so I goes in and have a look see. Now, my mission was to find two George Harrison songs, Peace on Earth (give me LIfe) and If Not For You on 7" 45's if at all possible as that's all I wanted.
I was also seeking a better copy of Peter McCann's Do You Wanna Make Love to replace the one that cause the needle to jump forward - even wi th the shure.
I was going to find John Paul Young's 70's hit, Love is in the Air and a rarish I think copy of Happiness by the Shades of Blue on the red Impact! label from the mid 60's. I used to have a copy of it until I accidentaly broke it about 30 years ago by setting my elbow on it while on the bed with it. :-( Sadly, forgot to find the John Paul Young record, they didn't have the Shades of blue hit but they did have Oh How Happy though (which already have).
Well, I found Peter McCann, Peace on Earth as singles, in decent shape, but quite dusty and seemed reasnoably clean and scratch free, then went to find If Not For You and found it was not released as a single, but is on the 3 LP set, All Things Must Pass and as they had a 1/2 off sale, I looked in the LP's and yes, they had that set, originaly priced at $30. Good thing it was knocked to $15 as it was not in prestine shape and upon inspection, the record had a deepish scratch straddling the last two tracks on side 1 but thankfully playable despite a definate click once every rotation so the guy knocked it down to $7.50. Sold. I now have the songs I wanted from George. But upon playng it at home, I discovered it was not all that clean in places as there was considerable surface noise on some tracks but overall relatively scratch free. Still, for that price, not bad. I think a really good cleaning may solve most of the surface noise and it'll be just fine.
Overall, not too bad and not quite some of the hauls I've found in the past though.
Follow Ups:
Of all the Beatles, I found Harrison's songs to be the easiest to listen to. I have the album entitled George Harrison and like every song on it. I picked that one up back in college in the used rack, naturally. I rarely see his stuff these days at GW or SA. Good deal on that 3-record set!
Yeah, if only it were in better shape I'd be even more happy. :-)
It is relatively easy to find this US set in VG to NM condition for a reasonable price, in the USA or Canada, because it sold millions, was reissued a few times, and some people probably think this "Jesus freak" days material of his didn't age well. I find it's a wonderful, highly inspired musical collection.
Oh I'm sure of that. But at $30 for one that ended up being not so hot well, that's not so good. Thankfully I didn't have to pay that price. Only a 1/3 of it.I'm sure I can find an even better copy if I choose to.
