Well, the first thing I noticed about my new OC9 is that it almost eliminates surface noise. It's almost creepy. My wife commented that it "really brings out the voices." Anyway, I'm very pleased so far, and I'm excited to see what it does after it breaks in. Right now it seems to throw the widest soundstage I've heard on my system before. My Hagerman Bugle isn't really up to the task gain-wise. I'm running a 100ohm input and 60dB of gain, and the hiss is quite noticable. I guess my next step should be step-ups. Hummm... before I began hanging out here I was happy with a Dual CS-450 and a Super OM30. Look what you guys have done to me!!
Follow Ups:
I had the same experience when I went to a Goldring Elite. The sn was almost non existant. The Dyna 20Xl has the same properties. Now I regularly play records thet were previously intolerable.

I agree, the ATOC9 is the most amazing cartridge. Quiet as hell with oodles of detail. You might like to try the Graham Slee Fanfare 3, cheap as chips and able to do justice to the ATOC9.I use the uprated power supply so am not sure if the performance is much difference using the supplied wall wart. I suspect there is not much difference. If you buy it and hate it you should be able to get virtually all your money back by selling it.
Personnaly I think Graham has shot himself in the foot as to me it stands head and shoulders above the Elevator that must be used with a MM stage accumulating hiss and hum (and price) along the way.
The Fanfare is absolutely quiet and has the advantage of being plug and play. On the GSP web site Graham goes into the mathematics which are way above my head all I know is the thing sounds great and still improving as it burns in.
JH is using superregulators in the Ripper and you can swap those into the Bugle for less noise. Send him an email and ask him which one's he uses. You can also use a different chasssis and move the power supply further away from the signal board.
As well, you can bring the Bugle down to 50db for less noise. Mine runs at 50 and the only high level noise was from hum when it was misplaced above another EMI source.
I know that there is noise inherent in the Bugle design, JH points this out, that can not be totally overcome but nmitigated to unimportant levels. Noise dropped a lot with it and surface noise is minimal but not totally gone. I think the noise that is generated also generates pop/click activity but i am at a loss to explain how. I know that that noise is reputedly gone in the Cornet, but then we are both talking SUTs for sure.
Long story short, drop the gain to 50 and use a SUT. You can always build another pre but the SUT will come in handy in all those cases.
BTW, which opamps are you using?
