It must be your fault I awakened with this running through my head:I thought love was only true in fairy tales
Meant for someone else but not for me.
Love was out to get me
Thats the way it seemed.
Disappointment haunted all my dreams. Then I saw her face, now Im a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
Im in love, Im a believer!
I couldnt leave her if I tried.I thought love was more or less a given thing,
Seems the more I gave the less I got.
Whats the use in tryin?
All you get is pain.
When I needed sunshine I got rain. Then I saw her face, now Im a believer
Not a trace of doubt in my mind.
Im in love, Im a believer!
I couldnt leave her if I tried.Holy macaroni! Neil Diamond wrote that! Sheesh!
If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!
Follow Ups:
Sorry 'bout that Mike. :-)I love that song and yes, I'm well aware that Neil wrote it. He does a good version of it but I think the Monkees did a better job though. :-)
I have all four of their first LPs on both CD and vinyl.
"Her name was Joanne" appealed to me...and still does.Ah...nothing like an older woman showing you the stairs leading to her bedroom...memories. I was SOOO in love with this Dutch woman...twelve or so years my senior. Damn! Don't ya just hate hearing songs that you identify with because of what's going on in your life at the time you first hear them?
Thank God her name was Anna!
Her name was Joanne
And she lived in a meadow
By a pond
And she touched me for a moment
With a look that spoke to me
Of her sweet love. Then the woman that she was
Drove her on with desperation
And I saw, as she went
A most hopeless situation
For Joanne and the man
And the time that made them both runShe was only a girl
I know that well, but still I could not see
That the hold that she had
Was much stronger than the love
She felt for meBut staying with her
And my little bit of wisdom
Broke down her desires
Like a light through a prism
Into yellows and blues
And the tune that I could not have sungThough the essence is gone
I have no tears to cry for her
And my only thoughts of her
Are kindHer name was Joanne
And she lived in a meadow by a pond
And she touched me for a moment
With a look that spoke to me
Of her sweet loveThen the woman that she was
Drove her on with desperation
And I saw as she went
A most hopeless situation
For Joanne and the man
And the time that made them both runFor Joanne and the man
And the time that made them both run
If I had more money, I'd soon be broke...but I'd have more LP's!
