Hi all:I'm looking for a stepup rig than can be used alone to ramp up a .2mV phono signal from the cart. and deliver it equalized to the linestage. Is this possible with no powered output stage (ie., no transistors, no tubes, no nada)? I've heard of this, but where's the RIAA equalization take place if one uses stepup transformers alone? Need balanced inputs and balanced outputs.
If that's not possible, what would you recommend for use as outboard stepup transformers for my BAT VK-P10SE & a .2-.3mV cart.? Straight tube gain of my phonostage is not enough with a cart. w/that low an output IMHO. Again would need to have balanced inputs and outputs. Finally, would you place the stepups before or after the tube phonostage in that arrangement?
Thanks!

no

try the ones that came with the unit. adding a great transformers ie. Stevens & Billington you are going to be adding more connections, wire etc..which is almost never a good thing.
I am just as confused as you.
Gee what's a phono preamp?

Ask a silly question....
My second option involves keeping the BAT. Please advise.
Thanks,

According to Victor K., and he should know, that unit has an input transformer.I suppose you could use an external one and go into the MM inputs.
I have heard of a RIAA equalizer done with transformers but I don't know from whom or obviously how it works or sounds.
Are you unhappy with the performance of the BAT with that 0.2mV output cartridge? Just curious.
I could be heplful with specifics on a step up transformer if I had more info.
