I asked the same question about a month ago. There were several follow up posts and detailed close up photos.
I only made a cursory search but it appears that Clearaudio wants you to replace the pads on the vacuum arm rather than the wand itself. The downside to this is that you can't readily run separate wands for first pass and second pass cleaning. If someone has found replacement wands for the Smart Matrix at an affordable price please correct me.
Aside from this it looks like a great (but rather more expensive than the 16.5) option.
Agree with you - easy switching of the vacuum tube would help protect against cross contamination. I wonder if CA offer separate arms and if the arm is easy to pull off.I noted in the last CA RCM thread that some dealers ads were describing this new machine as "near silent" in operation and in the same space quote vacuum noise levels of 80 to 84 db!
