I just installed this little Denon DP-300F as a backup for my Scout and when I'm either really tired or have had a couple too many Sam Adams Boston Lagers and need the automatic functions.
First impressions, even with the cheap Denon MM cart are quite good. Bass is a bit bloated and the highs are a bit rolled off, but this little table makes music. The female backing vocals on EC's Slowhand are rendered quite well and dynamics are not too shabby, either. I got it for a great price, $208 (msrp is $329).
After a couple of weeks I'll install one of my AT carts, probably the 440MLa, or might even stick the Ortofon 540MKII.
At any rate, I now place this table above the MMF-2.1 I had as a nice starter table or one for someone just wanting to record some old vinyl onto CDs.

Follow Ups:
They warn you the auto play functions will not work with records 9 feet in diameter. Fortunately I don't have too many of those.I checked to be sure, and it does have an anti-skating force adjustment.
Ok, good thing Denon makes an affordable and usable new TT. But there are so many automatic TT from the old stock you can buy for less:-Thorens TD145
-Dual 700 series
-Philips 777 etc. (late 1970s)
-Luxman PD284 etc.
-Garrard SP25mk3/4 (Ok, with a little work)
-Dual idler wheel drives like 1000 series, 1200 series (Same)Those are just the ones i'm familiar with, there are lots more.

Started using one just recently in a second system. Hit a switch to start/stop playing a record - very sweet - especially at the end of the record - no quick dashing to the turntable.
NOT a pretty sight.

What's the rush? Is it really so bad if the record spins for a minute, or even a bit more, at the end before raising the arm?As I posted below, my wife enjoys being our TT remote control because of my disability, but when she's not around, I don't necessarily struggle to get up until the music is over, and I always figured it was no big deal.
Now, falling asleep, that would be a different matter. I could use auto lift and shut off for that, but I have a tube preamp with no remote on/off, so I'd still be in trouble.
in the runout gives me the "willies."

In fact, I'd like to do a compilation LP of different runout groove sounds, since I've heard so many. The fun ending would be that the runout grooves themselves on my complilation LP would actually be modulated for music, albeit very short and repeating pieces of music (yes, there would be a Side A and a Side B of this LP).

At least I don't buy into the 24 hour rule. Now that's crazy.Seriously, this is a good post and resulting thread. I too have considered an auto or semi auto turntable for the sake of convenience.
(BTW, you do know I was joking about the runout groove, right?)

...Project Debut III SB phono they offer over here in the uk, it has it's own built in phonostage, speedbox controller for 33/45 and an adapter for 78's ! I used to own one, very neat indeed.

ostensibly far better than some other full auto tables at that price.what does it sound like? The phono pre wont be up to your Jolida or Stealth I bet but for 'plug and play' it's nice for a few reasons. You can tote it over to a friends or down to the shore. Plugin to an aux on a boombox and play some records at the kegger.
Now I gotta ask what happened to the Technics 1200. You are all belt drive on that countertop now.
Can't have too many tables, right.
The Denon makes a lot of sense for those wanting to transfer vinyl to CDs because of the built in phono stage and cart. I'm surprised Denon is not targeting that in marketing the table.
It sounds surprisingly good, especially considering the conical MM low end cart. I'm feeding the MM section of my Rogue Metis preamp now, which basically is a scaled-down Rogue Stealth. I do plan on switching in the built in preamp just to hear what it sounds like.
I also want to try a really good MM, like my Ortofon 540MKII.

Heck - even with a DL-110 or DL-160 it should sound pretty darn good!Nice table, Henry. :-)
Nice to see somebody making a decent quality auto shut off table. I'd love to see more companies offer something other than all manual tables for those of us who enjoy or need a couple other features.
Nice!
I have one of those, too. I had never heard of it before until someone on here asked about it a few months back. I had to get it because it is a new automatic that takes standard cartridges, and you don't see that too often these days. It is exactly what I had been looking for. I have a new Shure M97xE on mine and am pleased with the combo. I haven't tried the onboard preamp. Glad to see someone else who has one.
If you find a source, let me know.

I sure will. A search on the part number brings up only the owner's manual PDF. Tried a couple of parts sites to no avail. Will let you know if I find anything.
For the silver, it's PCL-310SP.

I've got a 1980-vintage Kenwood direct drive that I'm going to use as a second table, also.
It's fully automatic and the drive is quartz-locked. I'm going to use the way you do, also planning on keeping a spare cart handy so that I can use that table to rip really beat up LPs.

had a "backup" TT in my life and never missed a day of music either. But I did see that little Denon bugger on the German and USA websites and looks pretty nifty. Amazing that such a huge company would still today produce such a product. I don't think retired audiophiles are buying them. :-)
Nah. It will be mostly for the times I mentioned. Since I'm disabled I can't jump up out of the chair and gracefully get to the Scout to lift the arm at end of side. Plus the floor here is super bouncy (loft above a 3-car garage), so the auto functions are appreciated.

I'm disabled too, and thank God I have a patient, even audio-interested wife. She jokes about being my remote control with the turntables and preamp (which has no on/off on the remote). But she loves the music about as much as I do. She even enjoys operating the VPI record cleaner when my legs get too tired to keep scrubbing and vacuuming. Better yet, she is a "list maker" and actually ENJOYS entering all of our LPs and CDs into the KeepTrak program, which I had no patience for.
producing something like that in todays iPod world. Ditto the cartridges.
