Can someone tell me how to adjust the tone arm return travel on my JVC QL A2 turntable, (1970's).
After playing a record the tone arm keeps going past the stand and drops between the outside edge of the record and the tone arm stand. Then the tt doesn't shut itself off.
Is this a "do it yourself" adjustment?
Thanks

There is no adjustment you can make with the problem(s) you described unless you open the unit up. Are you able to play a record by manually lifting the tonearm onto to disc? It should automatically start spinning, and when manually cueing the tonearm up and back to its rest stop, it should stop spinning. In any case, it should be impossible to lift the tonearm beyond the rest position as the vertical portion of the J-shaped tonearm rest stops it, and the tonearm can't be lifted high enough to clear it.
I solved the problem. Here's what I did: I removed the platter. Then I removed the circlip from the white plastic gear. Then I removed the gear. I lubricated the cam slot (and a few of the teeth while I was at it) and replaced it. Voila! I guess it makes sense that something like that needs to be relubricated, since it was made in 1978. I used White Lithium Grease. Thanks four help TPAO. Much appreciated.
Thank you very much for your reply, TPAO.I'm afraid I explained my problem poorly. Here is what is happening: Everything works great except for one thing. When the record (LP) is finished playing, the turntable auto ejects, but instead of going back to the resting stand and stopping, the tone arm goes to the stand, back to the end of the LP, and then sets down in the middle of the LP as it makes another trip back to the stand. Until it stops its cycle, the needle lowers onto the LP and drags backwards toward the stand.
I will open it up and have a look for something obvious. My email address is: sliddycoat@cogeco.ca . Please email me, and I will send you a photo of the inside of the turntable. If you have time to do this, I would truly appreciate it.
Thanks again.
