Removing it probably results in an impedance of perhaps 1 megohm and lots of RFI/EMI sensitivity.
Follow Ups:
On some systems the resistors that control pumping really muck up the sound. If any resistor is in the signal path I would use a Dale Vishay or at least a Holco. This should be a big sound improvement.
it is not in the signal path, IE in series.
Since when is a shunt component not in the signal path?
Garth,I feel that the paradigm of the signal path being some kind of "pipe" from input terminals to output terminals is in contradiction to the most elementary understanding of how electronic circuits work.
This is one of my pet peeves: I have a little rant on my site on the subject.
