Hi all, assuming a lead of about 0.75 metres and a MM cartridge, what would be a safe maximum?
I got hold of some good quality ('Shark') OFC, single-screen/twin-core which is spec'ed as 112µF per metre (so about 80µF, plus all the other contributing stuff - arm-wiring, solder-joints, RCA's, phono-amp). Too high?
Follow Ups:
existing input capacitance of the phono input.
Okay, thanks Garth.Phono is 150pF, and I might use Eichmann RCA's, which I gather are fairly low and might offset the cable being a little high.
What kind of figure would below capacitance for'ordinary' twin core (not coax)?
I have a 1 metre DNM interconnect which I was thinking of using ( <15pF!), but it would need a screen, which would be problematic.
BTW, when I got the twin core I was bearing in mind what you've said about the unsuitability of coax (ground via screen) for arm-leads .
It is a simple matter of adding up the cable and input setting of 150pf.Forget about the plugs it won't make that much difference.
