Waiting on a AT33 now from Audiocubes to compare to a 103r. Been a week, no shipment notice yet.
If you le the AT33 that much more than the OC9, a 103R amy not be a step up. The 103R is richer, more dynamic, and carries better weeight when compared to the OC9. The OC9 is quicker, and sounds more detailed.
Since I gather the AT33 is warmer, and more fleshed put sounding than the OC9 the end may be about like the 103R.
Simce both like 100 ohm loading and have about the same impdeance comparisons should be fairly easy. The output of the AT is listed as higher, and it has much higher compliance. But the output and compliance of the Denon is higher than the listed numbers. Plus the low imternal impedance means it delivers more voltage when loaded down.
Hope to be able to answer this soon. And agree on the Grado's, tried a Platinum amd a Sonata and sold both. Neither was even as good as the AT OC9 in my system. Too colored and homogenized. Especially the Ref Sonata, needed 47K loading and lomc gain. Not many mc phono will even alllow this.
Follow Ups:
Several inmates report more air and space with a 20-40 ohm load. I haven't tried with my OC9ML/II yet since my phono pre's lowest setting is 100 ohms. I'm thinking of the CineMag SUT for that.

...reduced the load in my ARC SP-9III from 100 to 33ohms that the AT33PTG really started to shine.
Hey George,I hope you'll be happy with the AT33PTG when you get it...I like it a lot more than the OC-9..it sounds a lot more musical and sweet...in contrast I never managed to get the OC-9 to sound right...always a wee bit cold and uptight...but even then (like you) I'd take the OC-9 over the 2 Grados anytime.
When you do get your AT33PTG and have compared it to the 103R, I'd love to heard from you...please email me offline!
But judging from your description of the 103R against the OC-9, you're right in saying that it may just sound pretty much like the AT33PTG!
What setup do you use?
