adhd primarily affect the executive function tasks of the prefrontal cortex via anterior cingulate gyrus. the sense of music emotion is usually right sided temporo-parietal lobe. thus, in a dark room with music you are not using your frontal cortex as much as you would say at work or having to focus on a task. plus, musical interpretation has different cortical association areas... lastly, ADHD typically affects activities that require prioritizing, organization, and sequences = people with ADHD often have strengths/interests/abilities to remember or be very good at things that dont involve that heirarchy. make sense?

Yes, for me it means I have a hard time juggling a lot of figures, lists, etc... For instance, computer programming. I love it, I've done a lot of it, but I need things in place before I start. If I just sit down and start hacking away, I'll get maybe 15-30 minutes in before I get foggy and start making massive mistakes. If I'm on medication, or if I'm chugging coffee (which I found out is a very common tool for people with ADD) and listening to music loud enough to drown other things out, I make much better progress. My life is full of things I do to clear the fog (or at times what I call the "voices." That is, a stress induced rush of thought noise in my head that's almost paralyzing. My wife can see it coming on and will tell me things like, "pull over and let me drive." or something similar. Anyway, my LPs are a very good calming agent and leave me better off than beforehand.
It's almost impossible to be taken seriously about this subject - even though it is a very serious subject. Even I have to laugh at the responses you are getting. However, I too suffer from ADD and have been on life-altering medication for many years. And yes, I too find that listening to vinyl is a wonderful way to clear my mind.

I've been told many times that ADD is just an excuse for bad parenting and whatnot (though there have been times where far too many kids have been put on drugs for behavior problems), so I expect a bunch of silly responses.-Bry
