Don't know if many know this, but the founder of Transcriptors passed away last weekend. He was a man ahead of his time.
Follow Ups:
that I had bought in the early 80's and later put a Souther SL-3 on it. That combination worked great and looked fantastic. Only problem was the dust cover wouldn't fit. Always regretted selling it.
Every vinyl freak should experience a Transcriptors deck and Vestigal (that's the way he spelled it) tonearm at least once in a lifetime. For a 30-year-old record player, it's downright amazing.
It's been a long time since I've e-mailed you.I just acquired a Saturn that is going 'back home' to get refurbished, although it does not have a tonearm. I'm wondering if I should go original or put something else on it - A Hadcock maybe?
Best,
Michael
I'm the last guy in the world to pose as an expert on this table, or Transcriptors in general. The Vestigal arm, though, is enormous fun to play with IF you have a low mass cart and the patience of Job -- I've never seen an arm with so many adjustments. Back when it was believed that the lower the VTF the better, the Vestigal was designed to track at small fractions of a gram. I have a Sonus Blue on "mine," and it is tracking everything I can throw at it at 0.5 g. It's also just about the SHORTEST pivoted arm I've seen.
Sounds...intriguing? (don't know what word to put on it). Whatever I end up putting on it, the visual attractiveness of the table alone adds that much more to the listening experience. Seeing how smooth the platter spins, I can't imagine a how 'quiet' this table will be.
