hit the thrifts anymore. I've seen enough Al Hirt albums to last a lifetime. However, if you think you'll listen to them, good for you. There was a time when that might have been a score for me to add to my "library". The library is the part of the collection you don't really listen to but have in case (a) you read something about it in Goldmine or (b) if somebody comes over and wants to hear The Thompason Twins. It's never happened but I'm ready when it does.
I have stopped adding to the libray since my wife busted me and came down hard on my habit. I have to be extremely judisious as to what I "sneak" into the house as I'm no longer allowed to actively pursue the spending part of my hobby anymore.
The last record I snuck in the house was Chuck Mangione, Children of Sanchez. Needless to say, I probably should have been more judisious in my once in 3 month vinyl choice.
Actually, I have a Thompson Twins LP. I have no idea how I aquired it and it's never hit my table. Now if I only had a friend who wanted to listen to it...

Later Gator,
Crank up your talking machine, grab a jar of your favorite "kick-back", sit down, relax, and let the good times roll. The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
You might have good reason to visit Chicago someday.Mebbe work out a compromise, like, I'm coming over, but you hafta guarantee me that you already got rid of all yer Thompson Twins.
Or, barring that, we'll just meet at your favorite restaurant.
In case you've forgotten:
"I have a picture, pinned to my wall.
An image of you and of me and we're laughing and loving it all.
Look at our life now, tattered and torn.
We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears that we cry until dawnHold me now, warm my heart
stay with me, let loving start (let loving start)You say I'm a dreamer, we're two of a kind
Both of us searching for some perfrct world we know we'll never find
So perhaps I should leave here, yeah yeah go far away
But you know that theres no where that I'd rather be than with you here todayHold me now, warm my heart
stay with me, let loving start (let loving start)You ask if I love you, well what can I say?
You know that I do and if this is just one of those games that we play
So I'll sing you a new song, please don't cry anymore
and then I'll ask your forgiveness, though I don't know just what I'm
asking it for"

many years ago after I bought it, I liked it. This is a big part of my problem. I always listen to everything I buy, at least once, but I rarely find time to listen to many of them more than once. Even ones that I *really* like, I don't seem to get around to listening to after the initial listening. This is why I keep "discovering" records in my collection that I didn't realize I had, that turn out to be great records. It is fun, but also frustrating at the same time.
but I prefer his early quartet stuff and his less pretensious stuff better.Reading these posts and seeing the stuff that people have been picking up has kind of made me relieved that my wife cut me off. I've been able to just pull records out and listen to them without feeling like I have to compete with all the other sickies (I consider myself a sicky) for collection completers that I'll never listen to. I'm not saying I'll never buy another LP, it's just that I'm not half-listening/half scheming for more crap I don't need. The music sounds better without the greedy, "I need more" obsession that used to accompany my listening sessions. Also, I've since realized I don't have as much time to listen as I always thought I did when I was buying all the time. "Once I have all I need, I'll sit down and really enjoy them!"
It's like that saying that, "We buy books because we feel like we're buying the time to read them." That's how a lot of my past record shopping was. I now realize I really don't have as much time as I thought (with chores around the house, a 10-month old, making dinner, etc). I have probalby 6000-7000 LPs to hold me until my wife chills out a bit.
