Mike- I believe the most frequently encountered Wood bodied Grado's are the Platinum and Sonata, $300 and $500 respectively and i believe they are virtually identical except for the stylus configuration the Platinum has a bonded eliptical stylus the Sonata
a nude mounted eliptical.
It is confusing as hell, reference this and that etc. but the biggest bang for the buck, highest value Woodies are the Platinum and Sonata and I believe they all share the same virtues and general character throughout the entire line.
And are inordinately musical and intruiging even to those with the ways and means and experience with higher end Low Output MC'sThe TD 125/RB 300 with the Grado Woodie sounds like an incredible
set up ! hope it's tweaked to perfection and the stylus is healthy, but even if it isn't, grado has an excellent, very reasonable re-tip/exchange policy.BTW when I finally get Henry's Bogen in his hands I'll be doing yours and will send you some Jpegs

Henry
yeah i am assuming its either one or the other and am just hoping it gets here with the sylus intact. however for what i paid for this set up even if the stylus is dead, its worth it for the retip. i love my red, so would just get the wood body cartridge retipped.provded the thorens survives shipping i can't wait to hear how it sounds. i currently have a slightly modded NAD 533/p2 and when ever i listen to an older quality table i just think the rega table is junk (arm seems great though).
i also have a sony tts 3000 that fell into my lap with the giant sony arm and shure v15 II that should be coming tomorrow as well, so it should be a pretty fun weekend.
good luck with the lenco, i could just never get that quite right, i probably should have had more patience.
MikeI believe you will learn to appreciate the TD 125 a great deal
they are along with the TD 150's the sweet spots with Thorens Line
both are entirely different with the TD 125 being a seriously heavy,
big, superbly designed with an even more impressive build quality with the TD 150's being almost toy like by comparison, but inordinately musical and a delight.Tuning the suspension with the 125's can be both frustrating and tedious but the rewards are great if you're willing to deal with
the work with an eye towards serious long term use along with suspension tuning there are numerous suspension tweaks that can
radically alter the presentation. (TD 124 Mushrooms, Linn Springs
or Sorbothane blocks which I've yet to try, but the Linn springs
or 124 mushrooms seem to favor detail retrieval and speed without
an unreasonable loss in the musicality department, generally the more taught the suspension the better for Rock, Jazz and Reggae
the softer favors Classical for most. The sub chassis isolation design makes most common damping tweaks pointless or even counterproductive.
I'll send you the Chadwick tweaks, I've never bothered with most of
them, I got to the point where I was happy/satisfied and never felt the need, however I'm told set up that way puts the TD 125 squarely
in the performance realm of a well set up HW 19 IV
fred, that sounds good. i think the TD125 adhears more to my estics than a P2, it shoudl look pretty good above my hh scott 340b.
if you could send those tweaks that would be great.
although i'll tell you i am just excited about this sony as i am the thorens.
i have thorens 124 mushrooms form a 135 i have for 78's.
thanks again,
