There have been a lot of queries re the Beatles best pressings and it appears that a lot of you are not particuarly happy with the US releases?I don't think I'm far off the mark in stating that the UK yellow/black originals are sonically superior than most.
But as you are aware decent copies arn't cheap, but you only get what you are prepared to pay for, unless you are lucky.
Follow Ups:
70s German pressings are also very good and can be had for a fraction of 60s UK pressings. Slightly differnt sound from the UKs (usually more bottom, less top). Even quieter vinyl than the UKs.70s UK pressings (which are exactly the same as those found in the UK BC 13 box) are also very good for fraction of the price of 60s UK pressings.
I have read lots of good comments about them.
All I have is the Let It Be original Apple single (side A stereo, side B - You Know My Name - mono), and it sounds fab... gear... ...great!!
Not just UK, but other countries, like Australia, New Zealand, maybe more, exist where Parlophone released these yellow/black originals, and I think they are superb (I have some from here - Australia).
-----------------
I have a Philipino(sp)stereo y/b revolver which is superb.Yello/Blacks are the ones to go for,but of course they're not cheap, you pays your money and take your choice.
For a bit of money, but not too much money, get the UK Version of the Blue Box (BC13) Again, the UK vesion.I have a couple Japanese second pressings (AP series) Srnt. Pepper and White Album. Nice, not cheap, but not super expensive. OP pressings are best for Japanese, but not cheap.
Also not cheap, but the nicest version of the white album that I have is a 1982 Japanese mono pressing, sounds better than my UK original (heresy, heresy!) Again, not cheap.
Sure, UK originals are nice, if you can find them clean and not too pricey (good luck, you will pay dearly for clean ones.)
The US pressings are stinky stinky stinky. There is a reason some folks refer to them as "Crapital".
