I had to replace my steam iron last year. I bought a Black & Decker with a "Shot of Steam" feature. When they said shot of steam they meant it "POW"..POW...POW".
Well I got to thinkin about how steam is used for cleaning and the following popped into my head. I put a folded towel on the table and placed a record (still with me?)on the towel. Got the B&D all steamed up and ready. You have to do this like a bombing run, keep moving, don`t stop. One pass at a time about an inch above the record, POW..POW..POW and your out of steam. Soon as I do one side I put the record on my VPI 16.5 machine etc. The good points, PURE ClEAN steam, you have to see the surface to believe it, you can tell all crud has been lifted off the surface. I did this for a while and went back to VPI fluid, but man did those surfaces look clean!

v. interesting. and if it is warped, you could work on that with the iron too :)
... to the use of a steam cleaner on vinyl. He recommended it highly, as I recall.
It would get it nice and clean without the possibility of steam damage to the vinyl.Just don't set it for high heat.
Can you imagine coming home after work having a headache and thinking you are putting on Frank Sinatra when you accidentally put Led Zepplin on? Ouch.

The problem I have with that is that the exact thing that would make the technique work (heat) could potentially be very harmful. Is all.
Now, That's what I'd call:-
"IMAGINATIVE"
:~)))
