Every time I pick up the tone arm handle, a humming sound is produced. The humming disappears once I place the cart on the record, or on the tone arm holder. Is my turntable properly grounded? I've checked the connections, and everything seems in place and unbroken. My cartridge is properly mounted, and preamp set to receive a MC input with impedance of 100 ohms.My setup is as follows:
Thorens TD-126 MKIII
SME 3009 Series III with Denon 103 cart
Accuphase C-200V preamp
Accuphase P-300V power ampThanks in advance for any advice.
Best regards,

Thanks for your feedback, I'll give the tonearm and wiring another run through. Hopefully that'll solve it.Best regards,
if you get a hum when you touch the tonearm.Muzikmike is correct when he suggests that you be sure that the tonearm is grounded to the preamp or phonostage chassis. Also check that the tonearm leads are on the correct pin of the cartridge and that there is a good connection. Finally (since I'm not familiar with this cartridge) if the cartridge has a metal body, check to see if one of the cartridge pins is electrically connected to the metal body (my Clearaudio Aurum Beta S had such a connection). If it is, you may have to insulate the cartridge body from the metal tonearm.
I had same problem that was intermitent,it was caused by signal wires,in my case speaker, crossing and touching Power cables.Once I had dressed the cable with care, problem solved.
There could be something wrong with the wiring of the tonearm, but try that first. Also check to see if the cartridge leads are completely pushed onto the pins in the headshell and the cartridge itself.
