I have too many LPs !!!Because of a pending house sale and subsequent move, I have been boxing up my collection and moving it to climate-controlled storage. I lost count after about 5000 LPs (another 3-4K to go), and all that loading, unloading, and stacking is truly breaking my back!
I have already promised all my culls to those Florida vinyl-o-philes who leave nearby.

In the latest German LP magazine there's an interview with UK singer/songwriter Leo Sayer. He's moving to Australia with 5K records! I have about 4K now, i don't think i'll ever move again, i live in a nice old but well kept house for a scilly low rent. But if i ever do, there's going to be some serious culling. I'll reduce my classical down to 2 versions of each standard warhorse. And ditch a lot of pop/rock, i'll keep the blues/jazz.
The last time i moved, into to the house i'm living in now, my family said unanimously: Freek, this is the last time we're going to help you move. That was BEFORE i got back into vinyl...
Hi,Umm, is Lakeland very far from your bulky, unwanted treasure?
No, my name is not Mr. Rogers. You are gonna make someone very happy. Ol buddy, ol pal.
Actually I need to do the same thing. I need to thin things out as I have run out of room and will never in my lifetime listen to all the Lp's in my collection, let alone get them all cleaned. It almost feels like a ball and chain every now and then. My goal is to get it down from 6,000 to 1,500-2,000. Cleaned, alphabetized and catagorized, and sleeved. Damn that would feel good.
Whether to be an archivist or a collector????I am damned by ambiguity! One day I read a string like this one and I think, "If I just keep the best of the best..."
The next day I think, "But what if a friend wants to hear..."
The next day I think, "Imagine owning only records that would blow both my mind and anyone that enters this den of iniquity..."
Back and forth, forth and back..."Why do I need these Styx (substitute ANY name here) albums? I never listen to them, I don't like them overly much..."
Even in the Jazz, "Why do I have these ragtime LPs, I never listen to them...but what if I have a friend over that likes ragtime???"
I think I need my Nuk! Heck, all we had were thumbs when I was a wee one!
Nurse, nurse...I think you forgot to give me my meds!
Sleaze the day!
i like being the archivist - don't worry mike, someday your princess will come and ask to hear lady on those monster infinity's - and, please continue to be the archivist for those of us whose collections of only 6500 or so don't have room for the likes of styx and ragtime
IF either of my sons decide to get busy, get successful, get married, and give me a grandchild to spoil rotten!A two year old to sit on my knee and listen to my Infinity speakers...well, maybe, if those lazy kids of mine get busy and get rich, I'll have a pair of Superbobang 7000i driven by Gargantua Didactic Literature mono-blocks, connected with DeBoers 100k Diamond wires, and a Rolls-Royce Camargue turntable with a Lamborghini Gigliato Aerosa tonearm and Ferrari Testarossa cartridge!
About as believable a scenario as the names of the equipment, eh?
Sleaze the day!
But maybe filler belongs on CD and... Styx, I am not sure where that belongs... Well, I am, but my tongue will be held.
I'm in the Tampa Bay area. Not that I'm after youtr viynl just thought I'd say hello(then go for your viynl)

did a transAtlantic and two further moves with about 5000.
I'm 5 miles away ;-)
Get out there and help with the move!
The first time my wife and I moved I had 2,500 records. After the move I had about 2,000.The next time we moved I again reduced the collection by about 500, as I did the next time we moved... and the time after that.
Now I am down to my desert island 500 and I pray we never move again.
we moved across this microb-burg the same weekend that 6 other friends were moving (well, one couple had split up and got back together and bought a new house...1 couple = 2 apartments to move!). That weekend, beginning on Thursday evening and ending Sunday night, the entire group moved all 6 places to the 5 new ones! Our place was the last...at that time, my wife Barb and I owned about 2500 LPs and a couple thousand books.
A bunch of quite "fit" 30-somethings...4 days, 6 moves! When the last piece of furniture and the last box was brought into our house, one friend took me aside and said, "Mike, we love you and would do almost anytrhing for you...don't EVER ask us to help you move again!"
The move into this house we had almost no help whatsoever...even my kids were of little help (well, the youngest and his friends helped move the big stuff...but the "little stuff is the hard part)! My wife, my sister and her husband and a couple other friends moved the 10,000 LPs and a huge number of books...we're here until we die!
Moving can be cured...burn the house down with all the "stuff" and buy new!

Back in 1976 Mom, Dad, Brother and I drove our 49 flat bed Dodge truck with a home made camper from Mountain View California to Rives Missouri. We had the sellection of records that I have now, 2 crates.
The truck got us there and back but broke down when we got back home in California. Drove about 45 mph, but what fun! We stayed in MO for only about 6 months.
a Steinbeck novel!
Sleaze the day!
