Years ago, I bought one of these second-hand, cheap. It was manufactured (and made) in Sweden, not sure about other countries though. On the package it says that "STAT-O-MATIC removes any static on the record surface, because it is electrically conductive. Your dealer can perform the test with an ohm-meter". Although the mat is made of rubber, it is claimed to lead the static charge through the grounded platter. Sounds strange, or? Maybe some sort of conductive surface coating?Well, I just performed the ohm-meter test, and the mat is absolutely non-conductive! Was this mat ever supposed to work, or was it just the biggest April fool of the 70's?
Best regards,

Problem is that the static on the record face is not addressed by the mat on the ass of the album.....So you need to ground the top not the bottom.
STRAT-O-MATIC... But it's not a turntable mat...
God I loved that game . . .
