'The tonearm looks pretty close to a RB250 except the anti-scate is a plastic switch that lets you choose 0,1 or 2 grams(I set it at 2). Not the normal dial on the RB250 arms.'RB250 anti-skate has always been a plastic switch (it is also same on RB300), I thought main difference between the Goldring arm and Rega is how it is mounted - the Rega with a threaded pillar and the Goldring with a screwed tripod?
Follow Ups:
we have just been over this again this week. You will find a definitive post from 22steve who got the straight word from Rega on the subject on the link here.
In summary for your specific questions here, the anti-skating has the same style of adjuster on all Rega type arms until you get to the RB700. The RB300 has a dial for setting VTF and the counterweight is a true counterweight, not a means to set VTF. There are other differences in the arms as well. The bearing quality is not the same on the moth as the Rega. OEM arms should not be refered to as "Rega arms" as that is exactly what is leading to the confusion here. They are not exactly alike.

the Moth\NAD\Michell\Thorens etc OEM arms are the same as Rega and there is no hard evidence to suggest they are inferior (I can't imagine Michell using an inferior arm - it is just badged with their name!)

I thought I remembered the RB250 arm had a turn dial for anti-skate.
Dont remember any slider switch. That turn dial can be set for any Anti-skate where this Goldring version only has 3 choices. 0, 1 and 2
This arm does have the 3 screw mount. I don't even know how to install a washer to adjust vta for another cartridge..thought that was what the arm pillar mount was for...
The RB300 has a dial type adjustment for setting the vtf(the 250 just uses the counterweight to do this), maybe that is what you are thinking of.
Though you can't shim the arm base on the GR1 AFAIK, you could still shim the cartridge at the headshell, if you want to raise the front of the arm.

I thought so. I don't understand how I could shim this arm. BritAudio told me to buy their VTA adjuster. I still dont understand how that could fit either.
Shimming at the head shell would only work for a shorter Cartridge. Not a tall one.
