There is a wealth of posts on this, I know, but reading all of them as left me less decisive then before! So here we are, I'm buying tomorrow based on tonights opinons and analyses...What brush should I buy for everyday dusting? I'm presently torn be the Decca 2+2 and the Audioquest.
Another thing...there are a zillion brushes on ebay, etc. that look JUST LIKE the Audioquest brushes. Has anybody had the opportunity to directly compare them to the real deal?
Follow Ups:
I have a Deca that a friend gave me. I think the Audioquest brush he uses is a just a bit more stiff and more effective. I'd trade anyday. How much is an AQ brush anyway?

I would agree that whichever device you decide on for dry-brushing, keeping it clean is an absolute must. I use a Creek/Milty Pixall roller on my AudioQuest and Hunt/EDA brushes after each use. Perfect! I'm not at all certain what (if anything) distinguishes the Pixall ($24.99 at Elusive Disc) from the lint rollers you can but at Wal-Mart for a fraction of that price, and I wouldn't use it on the surface of a record (it's intended purpose), but it's very effective
at keeping record brushes clean.
Got 6 Decca knockoffs that are better quality and density than the Decca for $28 total, including shipping from the UK on Ebay.I'm set for life.
If you look for these deals, you find them!
By the way, they are perfect for dry and wet cleaning. I have one I use just for spreading the RRL Wash on the VPI RCM. Works great!I'll post a picture, if you want to try to get the same...
cheers,
Ray
I have both the AudioQuest ($20 from Audio Advisor) and the "knock-off" ($10 from Garage-A-Records). Can't tell the difference.
Then I discovered that Michael Percy has the AudioQuest for $12 so who cares about any difference.
The AQ brush is a very good deal at $20-$25, the Knock off is $12 and a bad deal, those would be worth $5 as far as quality and functionality goes, OTOH the knockoff Hunt or Goldring type seems as Good as the Goldring, which I think is THE best CF brush.A hunt or Goldring will dredge out the heavier stuff and the AQ for light duty alone, of to wisk off the crud the stiff Hunt ones dredges up, the combination is great for before and after wet cleaning especially after the first post wet clean play as you nail all the Films left from the cleaning and imbedded particles the stylus scrapes off with a clean groove, makes the 2nd play a lot quieter.
Some of the very dusty but otherwise clean (No or few finger prints etc.) used LP's can often be made more than acceptable for play before you wet clean, in some instances the wet clean isn't necessary
I own a Decca 2+2 and have tried several others over the years. The Decca works better than any other in recent memory. Trick with any brush is to keep it clean. The Decca's stand acts as a wiper of sorts to brush the bristles off. I do that every time I use it. I also give it a wave with an Empire double shot anti-static gun. I disassemble the brush including it's storage container every week and wash it in a warm bath using a mild detergent, air dry on cotton wipe with a light weight cloth over it, keeps the dust off while drying. The best help to clean sounding records is a clean enviroment to store them in. I hand wash my LP's using a Watts brush and a soloution of my making and then run them through a R/C machine I constructed based on the VPI. Let them air dry for at least 24 hrs in a rack (covered of course) and put them in new lined paper sleeves. This is by far the great help one can bestow on his LP's. In my experience anything that touches the surface of an LP just prior to playing it stands an 80% chance of increasing static rather than the prefered decreasing effect. Of course, this is just my opinion.Happy listening
to save a couple of bucks - buy the real deal and have done with it.

Obviously an inmate who can afford to squander a couple bucks, alas i cannot. I will however lay out the couple of bucks on an actual benefit. (2 bucks is 2 lps I didnt have, or actual toilet paper! jk, sorta)
Paper towels and dilute non ammoniated glass cleaner is better than nothing for a wet clean.
For my ass? Just kidding, seriously, your comments are a huge help--thanks!
