I saw the Knitters tonight at First Ave, and most of the band came out to talk to people after the show. I asked John Doe when the new album would come out on vinyl. He gave me some good natured ribbing (he really was very nice to everyone) and said it probably wouldn't happen. He doesn't think there would be enough interest for it to be financially worth doing. I brought up the Rhino vinyl reissue of X's Los Angeles, and he said he was present for some of the prep work.So anyone hoping for a vinyl edition of the new Knitters album can stop waiting (or try to license it yourself, which would be even better).
Follow Ups:
Personally, I thought the reissue of Los Angeles was horrible. I have never been so disappointed as I was when I threw it on my turntable.
I didn't buy that one. I've got an older repress that sounds worse than the current cd issue (which is totally decent). Actually, my originals for Wild Gift and Under the Big Black Sun don't better the present cd issues either. They are okay, but not better. The Knitters first album on vinyl smokes the Rhino cd by a country mile.
That's a cool story!I once went to a Guided by Voices record signing, and I of course bought the record on wax. When I got to the table, Robert Pollard said, "Vinyl, cool man!"
I guess that's the opposite of your story. Their record WAS available on vinyl, and the dude gave me props for having it.
I guess J. Doe was surprised by the question because I'm still in my twenties (though not for long). I don't think he gets into conversations about sound quality or vinyl with the younger fans. He did mention liking the sound of analog better though.I had a similar conversation with Victor of Camper Van Beethoven. He had a similar response to my question: the band would have to pay for it, and they couldn't afford to risk that much money given the questionable demand. Victor also mentioned liking the sound of analog better, so I guess friendly, talented guys tend to have good taste.
Hey, another CVB fan!I happened to meet David Immergluck (mandolin, lap steel, etc) last week, I was watching Girlfriend Experience at the M Bar and I guess he's an old friend of the lead singer.
I am weighing whether or not to head out to that whole Pioneer Town weekend.
