PC world claimed it delivered better sound than the other budget contendors. I dont have big bucks to deal with analogue right now. I want something better than average. This looks like it might be a killer. My older NAD PP1 someho crapped out on me. I dont see how this could be much better or worse. The NAD sounded pretty good considering its price but this is a bit more realistic. The NAD is overpriced IMO since it is just cheap asian parts. I think this might even be similiar parts or the same!
Follow Ups:
Personally, I'd clunk for a VSPS or phonoclone built on veroboard. Either will outperform the NAD, and will cost peanuts... Heck you could even mount either in the NAD case, and re-use the PSU and socketry...My personal (unfashionable) preference is for the LF353 as it's circuitry is very akin to the LM1875/3875, and to my ears has a smooth orund sound (against the BB offerings which whilst very HiHi lacked a certain 'organic' touch).
The upshot is the whole circuit may cost about 2 dollars a side excluding PSU using the LF353.. less than a machiato
Now there's a thought.

Um... I just happen to have a phonostage somewhat similar to that on the eBay site. Bought it at garage-a-records.com for like $70 or so years ago.Sound? Well... if all you have is a barebones Technics or Sony TT and an equally modest "big box" system, this little fella will fill the bill and then some. I speak from experience here. However, once you begin climbing up the audio food chain, you'll be craving for something better, with more "airy" and spacious sound. I talk for my own case - I am looking forward to get either a Graham Slee or a Jolida tube stage, probably the latter since I know a local dealer.
I seriously doubt that phonostage (if it's anything like mine) will be somehow superior to your NAD PP-1. So there you go. If I were you I'd give the Bugle a try, it doesn't seem so hard to build even if you've never assembled one of these things before.
Dunno, E-Pay can be "Dodge City". The linked item sure has a hard sell.Take a look at AA sponsor Jim Hagerman's "Bugle". It's modestly priced, especially if you DIY, and has drawn some favorable remarks around the WWW.

Good first project if you haven't DIYed before, and a great value. Hagerman has some other stuff worth looking at, like a SS Bugle/preamp combo.
Not familiar, but Stages are one area where you pretty much do get what you pay for up to a certain point, the only real Bargains at the lower end of the cost spectrum seem to be DIY like the Bugle etc.I believe the Stage is the simgle most important link in the analog chain, once you try a quality stage you will never go back as amplifying the miniscule voltage of even the higher out put MM's or MC's is a challenging engineering task, an amazing amount of information subtle and otherwise.
Probably not wise to snag a $29K Boulder Stage when your system is
base level stuff, but even the modest systems benefit greatly from a compent stage. The only real phono pre bargains are the DIY and some Phono sections
in vintage Integrateds and preamps, aside from that I believe $500 to $1000
is the realm of the base level truly worthwhile stuff, I've wished it weren't that way, as the $$$ can buy a lot of used Vinyl.Check the Archives here as there are zillions of excellent threads on the subject.
One the eBay stage I'd take a pass and start researching and saving for something that will give you a glimpse of what serious stages are capable of.
