I am breaking back out my vinyl after a 15 year layoff. I don't know what to exspect. I bought and old Technics SL-D2 from the late 70's with a Pickering XV-15 cartridge. It's been so long I have forgot how to use a turntable. I will not get to try it out until Thursday when my Creek OBH-8SE comes. Really hate to spend any money on a phono pre-amp not knowing what it will sound like. I guess if I don't like it, I can sell it. There is one album in perticular I want to hear. Edgar Winter's, "They Only Come Out At Night." I used to love it and the CD sounds like crap. Who knows, maybe the LP will sound like crap. I am hoping that some of my old clasic rock LP's will sound better than the CD's. We shall see. May have made a mistake. But a new used LP store just opened in town and they have some interesting titles. One LP I want is the remastered Beach Boys, "Pet Sounds." Am I really that old?Clayton

...you are OLD! But remember Pete Townsend is over 50! Welcome to the over 40 club Clayton ;-).P.S. - I'm over the hill as well
You youngsters need to learn some manners;-). Truman was president when I was born and I'm not, well...old. (I could have sworn that Capt. Peter Townsend - you know, the chap who was going to marry Princess Margaret - was older than 50!) Teddy Roosevelt was president when my father-in-law was born and he's just barely gettin' up there.
hehehe, Teddy Roosevelt! hehehehe. I hope that I live as long as your father-in-law. Yup, us baby boomers have no respect at all ;-). I just pity the Gen X crowd.
Yeah, but do you know the difference between the two Pete Townsends?
Yeah, one had a military rank and was involved with a rich aristocrat and the other makes music some of which is going to be around for a long time. :-).
Regards, another about 50 y/o

That Edgar Winter LP is a great one. I haven't dug it out yet but I know I've got it somewhere. But do yourself a favor and give them a thorough wet cleaning before you play them. It's a real pain, but so worth it. A good soft brush and distilled water is all it takes to get that dust out of those old grooves.
Just beware, my little experiment with vinyl ended up costing me another $500 for a cleaning machine and fluids, so watch out!
OTOH, a few trips to the Goodwill has netted me another 80 LPs for less than $1 a piece.
