I was following the postings regarding volume control replacement on a Fisher 500C. I need to do the same thing and was wondering how the project turned out?
Follow Ups:
My 500C pot has behaving pretty well lately, but I may replace it with a TKD 2P-2511s (500K). This is a awesome stepped attenuator stereo pot of particular precision. It's the best I have been able to find in the difficult 500K range. It is available from Octave Electronics in Malaysia for $70 USD. This is a "far east" source, but I understand they are very reliable. Of course you will lose the loudness circuit unless you can figure some other way to wire it. Go to Octave's website at www.octave-electronics.com for details.
Kerrigan,
What are the symptoms? I have a 400 that had a dead left channel traced to the volume pot. I cleaned the heck out it with cheap radio shack cleaner and brought it back but it is distorted. I'm getting some better cleaner but it seems like a real problem, if the better cleaner doesn't work then I'll have to replace!! :-(
My problem is unequal volume control. One channel remains weak until the volume control is turned up to about 1/3 volume. I can correct this with the balance control but there is obviously something wrong. I cleaned the control with DeOxit but that didn't help. I'd like to replace the control but it sounds like that is easier said than done.
