My wife bought me a SA-9100 amp to go with my long loved TX-9100 tuner. What a gal!!! I have a couple questions about the amp. On the rear panel there is a switch near the righthand side that I can select "normal", "Separeted Subsonic Off", "Seperated Subsonic On". What does this switch do, and can you tell me what each position gives me? Also does anyone have a service manual for the amp? If you do have a manual can you tell me how many pages it is and does it contain detailed technical writings on the operation of each major circuit? Does anyone know where I can download a copy, or get a copy of the User's Manual? Thanks Greg in Kansas

Hi!
God I´m jealous! My wife bought me a bigger shovel for the snow...
I´ve got the original opinst and a Scanner.
My problem: my SA-9100 shipped without power transistors, so I need a service manual or at least the transistor type.

The rear apron switch does, indeed, separate the pre-amp from the power amp - a common item on many 70s receivers and integrated amps. The extra feature on the 9100 with the subsonic on/off positions is that you have a low-frequency filter wired into or out of the circuit on the input of the input to the power amp's RCA connectors. Many integrated amps provided this as a front panel control switch but it does the same thing. Without a manual, I don't remember the filter's specs but I'd be willing to bet that its around 30-40hz and most possibly a 6dB rolloff - simple but effective for those old rumbly turntables or warped records. As for manuals and locating them, try searching through the archives for manual site links. The service manuals for Pioneers of this age were quite nice as I recall and included a basic circuit description. Marketing leaflet descriptions to the contrary, many of these amps shared the same circuit topologies so there was less of basic theory and more details on the major stages in the service manuals. All adjustments and blowout drawings (one of the most important, IMHO) were included. Sony, however, was the best with multi-colored, foldout circuit and board layout manuals - they also shared many of the same amp topologies.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
David
It separates the amp from the pre-amp, letting you use the 9100 as a separate amp and pre-amp, using the input and output jacks. The Subsonic is just a filter, either on of off depending on switch position. There are (or were) manuals on Ebay.
