The Heathkit AS-16's I previously advised you about are in Sarasota, maybe within an hours drive for pick-up. Still Buy It Now @ $15 the pair plus 6.5% sales tax for Florida residents. These are indeed bookshelf speakers depite the seller's floor stand description. With cloth woofer surrounds, only the original 'lytic capacitor requires replacement (easily accessed via the screw-removable back panel). These were a kit version of the Electro-voice EV-7 with builder-assembled crossover but factory pre-assembled & finished cabinets & pre-mounted drivers. Use Asylum email if you desire more info per AS-16 or EV-7 speakers (I have both with original documentation). I'd buy 'em myself except for the shipping factor.
Follow Ups:
Ron,I am going to see if the seller will allow local pickup. If he does, Sarasota is less than 1 hour away so I will give them a try.
You recommended changing the caps in the speakers. Have you ever changed the tweeters, and if you have, what were the results?
I originally was hesitant due to the units using cone tweeters.
I've trialed a Seas H519/35tffc 25mm silk dome with this woofer in this cabinet. While I eventually achived satisfactory results, I still prefered the critical vocal range of the original design (which crosses @ 1500Hz). That original cone tweeter measured extremely smooth with pink noise applied. The original 'lytic cap value is 6uf & I presently use G.E. 5uf polypropylene film from www.madisound.com @ 75-cents each. If you get 'em, email me via the Asylum & I'll send a free copy of the original Assembly & Operation Manual.
A very good tweeter BTW, but now discontinued.
