The weather held out and about 45,000 square feet of indoor, including a little outdoor space was occupied by the electronics vendors. Saturday another 80 to 100 non electronics vendors populated the rest of the second pavilion and outdoor tables. These vendors bring electronic goodies with them too. About 10 Vintage Asylum members were there. The juke box club was there selling chances on a pretty? box. Tunes played all day and people were very pleasent. On Friday night about 5 locations had listening sessions until pretty late. The $12. steak dinner was great then some shopping and listening was in order. Most places you stopped offered you water, beer or a coctail. I was given some first class martinis and nice sharp cheese. This meet is like old friends that meet twioce a year.
Here are some audio items I am aware of:
Simplex amplifiers. Some huge military audio amps.
Altec triode tubes, and lots of other audio tubes.
Rek-O-Cut TT. Weathers TT stuff
SS gear from many manufaturers. Some nice Marantz receivers.
Speakers from Marantz, Sansui, KLH, Dyna, JBL, Altec, EV, Utah, Bose, and a lot of others.
Raw drivers.
Tube tuners from McIntosh (3), Heath, Dyna, Scott etc.
Records.
RtoR Pioneer, Ampex
Integrated Lafayette, Eico.
Lots of parts. It was hard to tell how much audio was there. It was priced well usualy and off it went to someones trunk quickly. I am sure some of the guys will add items they saw to the list.
Thank you to all that stoped in to say hello. I had a great time and signed up for September 21, 22 2007 while I was there.
Follow Ups:
It would take a major effort to set up a Hi-Fi swap meet with reasonable cost for selling. But this already exists. The reason that so much Hi-Fi was there and not seen by most of us is twofold. First it is often reasonably priced and the second it is a strong Hi-Fi sellers market at this show. If you take it out of the trunk and it never touches the table and is gone, then it will look sparce. Many people there will buy different items thet would not sell at a Hi-Fi only show.
No you will not find Krell and Acoustat here right now but if you want to sell them this could be a market. The bottom line is if you want a venue to buy and sell audio just show up with the stuff or money and you it could grow to be even more audio related. A hi-fi guy I know bought a Fisher receiver and 5 radios and had a blast.
Thanks for being there, you all made it a great time for me.
Al
What a great time !!! While the selling seemed to have started later than usual on Friday, there was lots of hifi to be had...
Amps were plentiful, with many tube amps on hand. The Eico HF81s sounded great. I missed seeing the Altec Triode amps (1570B ?), but the deal that should be remembered was this fine package- McIntosh
C-20 + (2) MC-60s + Scott stereo integrated(7189 type)+ Scott FM multiplex tuner for $2800. The items were not even displayed as they sold as the seller opened his vehicle. From what I heard, the chrome shined ! At another table was an MR-71 selling for $800. There was another stereo Scott setup-the 7591 tubed 299 integrated, plus 350B FM stereo tuner, that sold for $550. My rare pair of Heathkit 55Watt W7s did not sell, but sounded real fine with the loaned Altec Fourteens. Many Thanks to HenryBasstardo for bringing the Altec monsters !!! My homebrew, 12 year old, Push-Pull 245 amps, made with chrome EH Scott power supply chassis, also did not sell. Sounding sweet on the Altec Fourteens at moderate listening levels, they did distort on loud sessions. Outdoors is a tough acoustical format. At my table was a rare, early stereo vintage ARKAY preamp and amp, that was traded toward some great turntable items, brought to me Saturday, from a fellow collector. He also bought my homebrew, chrome chassis SET amp that can use 6A3, 50, 10, VT-52, 801 tubes.
More amps that I saw were Dynaco SCA-35s at two diff. tables, a Heathkit W5, Bozak mixer/ss integrated mono that had three Peerless 4722 input trannies onboard, Motorola SE EL84 stereo amps on copper chassis(two setups), the largish military amps at two tables, Scott 6L6 mono integrated, some Masco amps, a few homebrews, and a seriously cute, early 1950s,light green, SE 6L6 amp by Allied.
Preamps with tubes were a little more scarce. I saw a few mono phono preamps around, some stereo phono/tape preamps at my table, including the rare Fisher PR-66 console option, which is an
outstanding sounding phono stage. We listened with a hot rodded Shure M65. There was also a stereo, dual 12AX7 chrome phono/tape unit, a sleeper from Heath, the AA-20 stereo preamp, an EICO HF-85, and more.
Turntables were to be found at many tables. Vintage Duals abounded. Al Nico's RekOkut B12H went quickly, plus some tonearms showed up ! Shure tonearms that needed work were available. A rare, mid to late '50s, IS Velvet Touch mono arm, with extra headshells, new in the box, fetched $100. I heard about a three arm score that included a Gray unipivot(late model, not the cool shiny black top), a Micro Trak, plus, an Ortofon 309, that brought $850 for the lot.
I brought many cartridges and stylii. Mono collectors always need more stylii for their GE VR carts. I made three collectors very happy with NIB stylii. Another hardcore collector bought my NIB Shure N44-3, a 78 diamond tipped stylus. Diamonds for 78s are very hard to source. I also got paid for a setup that I will put together and send tomorrow, which includes a Dual 1019 cart carrier, Stanton 680EL, plus an extra 78 stylus that I made, which should really make that collector very happy.
Speakerwise, I saw Celestion Ditton 100s with great tweeters, KLH dual 4 inch, ported, full range mini-monitors, Fried mini monitors, a University corner enclosure with 12" coax, Dynaco A25s, Bose floor standing speakers, Polk Audio floor standers(that cooked very loudly), Epos monitors, EV Aristocrats from two diff. vendors, a Karlson 8" enclosure, AR 4Xs, Jensen RP 302 tweeters, a rare British Stentorian full range 10 or 12 incher(hard to see as the dealer whisked it away under his arm), Lafayette 12 inch coaxes(probably by Coral), one Realistic Electrostatic, a 12 inch full range Jensen with huge AlNico magnet, and more. The four-way or five-way Corals, that a vendor brought to demo, sounded nice, also.
Certainly, a good to great time was had by all. Many folks who came Saturday, especially the many after 9 AM arrivers, seemed to not even know about the Friday start ! I looked through a 4000 tube collection that was brought, only to buy six tubes ! Two of them were 7241s though, an elusive triode find. For the vendors, it is a very strenuous task, with all the loading and unloading and reloading and driving and unloading and finally nodding out...
Still, I wish this could happen quarterly, or even monthly !
I also saw at least three Fisher tube receivers get sold very reasonably.
Tubes were plentiful and very reqasonably priced. You tube buyers who sit and buy new tube offerings from the comfart of your chairs miss out, big time !
Tubewise, at this show, I saw 45s, 2A3s, 250s, 280s, 226s, 227s, 56s, 6B4s, 6A3s, 10s, 7241s, German and British EL34s, USA fat glass 6CA7s, 7591s, a WE 350B, 421A and 310A, plus so many more....
Al Nico mentions that high end and state of the art goodies may not show in these meets, but they do pop up. In years past, I have seen some very high end goodies here. A mint Dared stereo SET 845 amp sold for under $700. Thorens, B&O, and Broadcast quality turntables often show up. I once bought a Mark Levinson head amp at this meet. Snell speakers show and sell. This show had one of the most expensive vintage tonearms sell- the Ortofon 309 16 incher. For a 40 year old tonearm, with a current severe worldwide demand, I would call that a state of the art tonearm.
So, while Krell and Wadia gear may be scarce at these shows, aren't they scarce anywhere ? I know that high end gear shows at flea markets, albeit rarely, but that's why we keep on going.
I think this DVHRC Kutztown event is a real happening. As Al says, it just gets better n better...the next event is in September...
Hey Al,
'Twas nice to meet you and put a face to a 'name'Seemed like most folks were having a good time. Clearly lots of *really* old radios. Not so much audio stuff. I did spot 4 different HF-81 amps, including yours. Saw a couple of Scott and Fisher receivers. Missed the Altec triodes (woulda been interested in 'em). Those Alec speakers sounded pretty good, as did your mighty mites. Some ratty Dyna speakers. Some interesting homemade tube amps.
I bought a couple of tubes (not many audio tubes in evidence tho) and some knobs. Probably spent more on food than on gear.
Anyway, thanks for posting this. Not sure it was worth the drive from CT, but a good time nevertheless.
If it was not worth the drive come see me next time, let me know what you need, come early. AL Nico and Interstage sum it up in the looking for treasure sense for hi-fi. I saw a few more deals they did not so there are nice deals. I had numerous offers on my 14's so bring the Hi-Fi and it will sell. No excuse. we can make it what we want. Freedom, It was awesome!!!
I'm still trying to take it all in. Those amps Larry played through my speakers rocked the house. Then after martinis and cheese the Frieds and Eicos rocked. (More polite, 1/4 the size)I love old radios, wish I had room for the consols. Hi-Fi was there but you had to hunt. EL37 said he saw 1 NOS 12AX7 one year. I agree but, James, I picked up an awesome 600 with 7189, rectified and miniature mullard flled for a steal. Deal was made before the coffee, eeehhmmmm I mean first beer. ;-D
Come all and have a great time. I had the time of my life. Bud beer can AM radio for $1. Cleaned and cleared today. Ball game sounded great except they lost.
Thanks for the hospitality and genuine comradere (sp) .

Hello there! I wanted to thank you for your assistance with the hifi setup, so, THANK YOU !!!
The comaraderie at these shows is priceless. Many good friends are made at these shows. We do have common goals and lots of us are very willing to help one another. These shows should be four times a year, well, at least three ?
Some of the onlookers/maybe buyers can be quite snobby, but, it's their loss. You know the type...they oogle and hang out, checking our stuff, but will not reply to any questions. It is like they are afraid to chat, presenting a standoff attitude. Little do they know that we have just what they want, maybe even hidden in our cars...
For the most part, it is loads of fun.
Thanks again to all who made it happen !!!

...which album were you able to secure? You should add Q mag's May 2007 issue to your weekend haul! Has cover story on the Smiths' last days! Looks like a Marr-Morrissey reunion won't grace any stage any time soon! Morrissey had a recent sold-out stopover inside Oaktown's Paramount Theatre. Marr's been touring with Modest Mouse! Enjoy thy largess, Enrique!!!
A nice day indeed!!!!It's always a pleasure to finally meet fellow Asylum members!!!
