I have a chance to purchase wither a Mcintosh 6200 integrated with complete factory restore or stock Pioneer Spec 1/Spec 2 combo for the same price. Which way to go? Will be paired with Rectilinear III speakers, mostly vinyl source (jazz and rock). Advice?
Follow Ups:
I have decided to go with the Mac... I should have it in a few days. Looking forward to my first Mac amp...thanks to all for your input.
You chose wisely.

Golly both comet and tommy are correct here..Thats a tough decision because even tho Im not a big pioneer fan,I know the spec 1,spec 2 ganered a lot of respect thru the years because of its build quality and rarity compared to most pioneer gear.
Personally I would take the mac if I had to choose but thats a tough one because if you look at what the sansui solid state tuners like the TU-x1 and a certain kenwood model bring 3 or 4k,it makes you wonder if the higher quality vintage japanese gear is finally making its way into mac and marantz territory price wise.I figure the amps may follow like the spec 2 but its speculation.
Both. And then sell on ebay the one that comes in 2nd. Both are great set ups. The Mac may be a little more laid back, and WAF friendly. One of the great htings about this vintage is tha ability to try many many set ups and find your preference.

variety is the spice of life. You must experience it all!
As always, nobody but an audio fool would gainsay (or gainclone) Tommy the K's always wise advice. What's for dinner tonight, Tommy? Marilyn and I are going to hear Beethoven's Fifth at NJPAC this afternoon. Maybe we'll stop someplace in the Ironbound afterwards for a bite.My new tech, Russ Barbone, was the number two man in Perdue Radio's service department for some years. Many will remember Perdue in Montclair, New Jersey - in its day one of the biggest McIntosh dealers in America. Russ was trained by the McIntosh factory, and can take any McIntosh product apart and put it back together in the dark. He has great respect for McIntosh equipment, and owns virtually every piece of service gear McIntosh ever made.
His personal system is built around a Pioneer Spec 1 and Spec 2. Make of this what you will. I drive my Tannoy GRF Memories with a McIntosh 7270 (recently refreshed by Russ), and desire nothing more. Assuming that the Pioneer pieces and the McIntosh are in the same condition electronically and cosmetically, my personal prejudice would tilt my choice towards the 6200. But I would certainly discuss the matter with Russ, and his opinion would weigh heavily in my decision.
I had recently posted that the only problem with Russ was that because he lacked a tube tester, he was unable to service tube equipmnet. Thanks to a Stancor purchased on eBay, however, that is no longer the case. His work is meticulous, his turn around super-sonic, and his rates reasonable in the extreme. He works out of his home in Nutley, New Jersey, and can be emailed at russellsonny@verizon.net, or reached by phone at (973) 667-0379.
Chef,
talk about great Portugese! Truly world class in the most unexpected of places. My better half went through UMDNJ and during her tenure there we found some great fare.I just got off the phone with Russ. He is going to repair my MC30s, a MR67 and MA-6100. Thanks for the reminder of the local talent.
I still daydream about your Tannoys. But between my Hartleys and Belles, I am running low on rooms big enough. Yet, my parents just bought a new house around the corner from me. If you still have them next month, let me know if I can make you an offer for their house warming gift.
Don't know if that matters to you. Sonics are pretty good on the Mac too. The Pioneer may need some attention to the power supply (had one Spec2 that needed electrolytics last year).
