Hi, I scored a Dynaco ST70 yesterday and I was wondering if I could possibly pick your brain for some advice/guidence on how to take best advantage of upgrading it. I've noticed over the years that you seem to be super knolegable on the subject. Are you still a dealer for vta? I think that I remember seeing your name as such awhile ago but I am not 100% sure. I may also need some caps from you to do the job. Please email me or respond here. Thanks.

Hi Danny
I will gladly help you out and I do use vta boards even tho I dont consider myself a dealer. You can buy them right from tubes4hifi..I can email you in a while.
I just realized that I had a older email address in my profile. I just updated it with my current one. Sorry if this caused you any hassle:(.
No
You must have been talking about the amiejocpa address correct?
oh yeah and any email to me before the last message would have bounced. I should have included that in the previous message. Stupid of me not to have. I really should get around to updating my system profile also someday. It's a bit out of date.
Thanks Michael. I really appreciate it. I'll go order the board now. I'm a bit though confused though on how to go about replacing the can capacitor. Maybe you can recommend how best to go about it. Also your idea about using 6l6gc's instead of el34's sounds interesting. Thanks again.
The new JJ KT77 is the tube Mike turned me onto. I added a quad to a ST 70 I am rebuilding, they sound great. A true bargain IMO.
You could add an under the chassis power supply board instead of replacing the multisecton cap. They are easy to install, work very well but are somewhat expensive.
I have a ST70 with the Welborne driver board (which i prefer *slightly* to the VTA board). I have a nice quad of XF2 Mullards, but recently I tried the KT77's, and I haven't gotten around to putting the Mullards back. The KT77's are very linear, good extended highs --better than the Mullards -- and definitely more solid bass. Not quite as rich (some would say syrupy) in the midrange as the Mullards. But still has some of that midrange magic. Definitely a nice tube.My first quad had undersized pins. My next quad had two tubes with crooked bottles. Nevertheless, they sound terrific. Recommended (and not too expensive either). So as long as you don't mind your amp looking like a porcupine, with tubes sticking out at strange directions, it's a pretty good choice for a ST70.
Good luck with your new amp. It's a honey!
Thanks Frank, hopefully everything falls into place for me and I don't regreat trying the rebuild. Do you have any recomindations on where to buy the kt77s now? I notice that a lot of the usual places such as Upscale Audio or Triode Electronics don't carry then.
hmm. I just got a bit scared about the JJ KT77 after reading all the quality concerns a bit ago. I wonder if the tube is in ok shape how it compairs to running 6l6gc's on the amp. Maybe Mike can chime in on this:).
