Was watching a repeat of The Sopranos, an episode from the first season featuring Hesh (I think that's his name). He's a trusted advisor of "the family" who made his money as a manipulative record producer back in the 50s. Anyway, there's a scene where he's listening to music in his living room, contemplating his past deeds... the shot pans to the counter where the music is playing... a nice wood-based turntable (couldn't make out the model) and right next to it - BINGO! - the nice little amp with the big, big sound, Marantz 1060.(Is this what bird watchers experience when they spot a rare bird?)
Follow Ups:
I'm pretty sure the turntable is a SOTA. They mentioned it being used on their website.
SOTA, of course, is what Dr. House listens to during quiet moments in his office. In a 1970s movie (either "Oh God" or a fluff flick with a very young Brook Shields), George Burns is listening to a Jolson recording played through KEF loudspeakers, driven by SAE electronics. At least that's my recall. Perhaps someone here can back me up.
I've been trying to ID that unit. Thanks. It's always fun to "spot" the stereo in movies. It's even more fun when you have that one!!!
I saw a DVD with a Carson interview in his study. And right behind his head was a big old Sherwood receiver and speakers.
