My local goodwill store has a 50% sale today. I went there and bought a prestine Telefunken T-1000 tuner and a Toshiba SB-420 amplifier. I paid $16 for both. Both units look solidly made. I tried to search in the forum and found no info on these units. I hooked the units up. They sound decent. However, I found the FM muting switch seems not working. My pioneer receiver will mute all the noise when I turn the muting switch on. Telefunken's muting switch has no effect. Is something wrong with it?I guess Toshiba brand amplifier are not well known as other Japanese brands like Marantz, pioneer, luxman etc. While I found it has decent sound, I am wondering how it stands against other Japanese made amplifiers.
Follow Ups:
I was given a Toshiba receiver. After a few hours of cleaning, re-soldering a few pots to the PCB, replaced a foil covered power supply fuse (WTF?) and other typical r&r, I really like it.No problem picking up FM from the basement (simple wire alegator clipped to a heater duct).
...the 'foil covered fuse' simply created a fuse bypass!
...clean all of the controls and connections with deoxit, no matter how clean the units look. Toshiba amps are not as prominent as some others but Toshiba electronics tend to be very good units. That vintage of Toshiba reminds me of some of the Yamaha designs.
you paid $16 !! and now yr concerned if it has Pedigree.
Geeez.. if it works you should be pleased.
IF you think you've won the lottery with this then a doctor's exam is indicated.
I see nothing wrong with his questions.
I checked my 1997 Orion and there was no listing for that amp.
Telefunken only listed a couple r2r machines.
Try asking at the site below, there are a lot of German and European members, and I know several have posted about Telefunken gear or would know the gear.
