Just curious if anybody has ever experimented with removing the stuffing behind the 10" woofer in the Dynaco A-25. If so, does it do anything to liven up the speaker or improve the midrange? How would you describe the sonic results of this modification?
Follow Ups:
My Dynaco A25s(the later version with the Scan-Speak tweeter),are filled to just over half the volume, plus on the sides, nothing on the baffle. And they are original and never opened before.
How about thumpy, one note bass because the stuffing is there partly to keep the bass Q down. The bass will be stronger at some frequencies, but not as smooth, and it won't extend as low. You'd also notice a less smooth midrange because of internal reflections. It might sound more lively, but it won't be as accurate.
this woofer performs best with about 1/3 fill in the cabinet. As jerry said above, you can change the sound but it will be at the expense of the midrange quality.
The stock A-25 has much less stuffing than that. I was surprised when I opened up an A-25 and an Advent--way more stuffing in the Advent. I wonder if one should not rather experiment with adding stuffing to the Dynaco.
