No, and those are not fully original, either. The tweeters look a little different so I'd guess one or both are not original. If they were made too far apart in time, they may sound a bit different. Someone else noted the grill cloth is not original, and he's right; but it also looks like the original black gauze under-fabric is missing. And the grill badges are on the wrong side as someone noted. Further, it looks like the front baffle is too dark and may have been painted black.Getting the transmission of the grill fabric right is really important and I'd worry about that with these.
If they sound good, they are probably worth $150 on ebay, more from a local shop. But $500? Get serious!
Follow Ups:
I didn't realize thay were far from original, the description indicated that they were just refoamed, which can be expected for their age. I've been watching large Advents on e-bay for a few months and they usually go for around $160-180, this auction astounded me. I'll find a pair in that range for my workout room.
If you get a pair of the original Advents (Masonite ring woofers)plan on new caps for the crossover. It's only a few dollars to do it right and it helps the midrange a lot.The Advent is a deceptively simple looking design, but everything in them was carefully thought out. When I worked it all out, I was really impressed. It's a masterpiece of design. I'm amazed he could sell those for $121 each in walnut.
Thanks for the tip.
Hey Jerry, a $350 pair of Utility Advents will soon be joining da audio arsenal. Found a curbed pair of oak-cabbed Advents several years back. Fairly well trashed, except for those Masonite surrounds. Finally got around to takin' 'em to Brown Soun for re-coning, along with a pair of blown tweets. Charlie said they couldn't recone the tweets, but had a similar second generation pair for $110 each(an updated Advent replacement was $65 each). Makes one wonder what that original tweet duo could be worth? Got those Utility Advents from a co-worker a decade or so ago. Chucked da original woofs, like a fool, in favour of Technics woofs(now utilized for rear channel duty). Blew da tweets over-pre-amping da Sansui when it first arrived. Am now paying dearly for that double dip into auditory malfeasance. But $350 for up-to-date retro classique seems a decent refund investment! Those trashed oak cabs face a future hosting hemp-coned V30s, powered by Altec/Lansing 1569A amplification! P.S.: Heartfelt sympathies to eastern-n-midwestern-n-southern storm victims, as well as to Virginia Tech victims' families-n-friends(just announced over KVMR)!
